Though the capital of Provence and France’s 2nd-largest city, Marseille proudly grooves to its own Mediterranean beat – a mash-up of big-city grit and small-town sociability mixed with seagull squawks and scooter engines. Bookended by limestone fjords and garrigue hills, this working-class metropolis is profoundly shaped by its seaside location and its deep ties to the rest of the Mediterranean. The port has welcomed waves of goods, immigrants, and ideas since 600 B.C. Briny, boisterous, gritty and gorgeous, Marseille is a cultural crossroads in constant flux. The latest evolution was sparked in 2013, when the city reigned as Europe’s Capital of Culture. Now, France’s least-known city is finally on the map. Let us be your guide with this food tour in Marseille.

This was my 6th tour with Culinary Backstreets. Each one has been outstanding carefully curated to the location. Our guide, Severine, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable and answered all our questions with great insight. She was also curious about us and tailored our stops to our interests. I always recommend CB to my friends with confidence. Marseille gets top billing.

This was a very engaging tour with a wonderful guide. We saw several city highlights, tried a lot of awesome food, and learned about the city's past, present, and food scene.

The experience was canceled hours before when I was in train going to Marseille. Really terrible. Travelling for nothing and losing my time.

We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful food tour in vibrant Marseille. Coco, our excellent guide, showed us some fantastic hidden gems we could not have found ourselves.

There were only 3 of us on this excursion and CoCo was a fantastic guide. We tried all sorts of great food and drink in all sorts of unique spaces. I enjoyed walking through parts of town I would have never experienced without a guide and learning more about the history of Marseille. Would highly recommend!

I always learn so much with Culinary Backstreets. It's not only about the food, but about the city and cultures. I will always look for a Culinary Backstreets in whichever city I'm in -- the guides are so professional and humble.

We learned so much about Marseilles as well as the wide variety of food options in Marseilles. Florence was a fabulous tour guide with broad knowledge of the food, culture, history, and art. We learned so much! We went back to several of the vendors over the following days. I definitely recommend this tour!
