My tip for anyone thinking about doing a hop-on hop-off bus tour is to buy tickets the same day rather than pre-booking. I booked ahead with Big Bus Tours during my trip to Sydney and ended up wishing I had waited. While the concept of the hop-on hop-off tour is nice, most of the stops on the route are very easy to reach using Sydney’s public transportation, which is much cheaper and very simple to use. By the time my scheduled day came around, I was already comfortable navigating the city on my own and didn’t really need the bus. Another downside was that there were only two buses running per route, which meant waiting a while for the next bus—especially if the one that arrived was already packed. The one tour I would still recommend is the night bus for the city skyline and light views, but overall I’d suggest considering public transport first if you’re visiting Sydney.

The buses were very crowded. Once we got a seat, we hated to get off and give it up. The audio narration was very good.

The Hop-on Hop off bus is very handy for tourists if you are only touring the iconic visitor areas of Sydney.

Night bus was great. Boat was just a ferry to two spots. Red and blue buses had hour to hour and a half between so nobody dared to get off thus leaving standing room only many times.

Excellent way to see Sydney’s wonderful sites. Drivers were very helpful and friendly. We did have some difficulty finding one meeting point, but using the Big Red Bus website provided a picture of where to meet.

Service on the spot very friendly and helpful although timeliness on Sunday rather random. On Monday Coral Prince passengers invaded all buses👎

While the concept of a hop on hop off tour is good, it really only works if there are busses to get on and off! There seemed to be a real shortage on the blue route so spent too long just waiting. The drivers were polite and the commentary informative but overall, a little disappointing.

Don’t expect to be able to use the bus as transportation between one attraction and another if you’ve booked time slots for them. The bus timings are completely out, for example the first bus of the day on the blue line was half an hour later than expected at our stop. The commentary was good and informative with good old Aussie music playing in between!!

It was so crowded and a long wait to get on a bus. Made it difficult to get off because it would be a long wait to catch another bus. Every stop was like that. People were waiting through 2 or 3 busses in order to get on.
