Great Buddha Statue

lThe 80ft Buddha statue is one of the many stops in the Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist routes in Bodh Gaya, Bihar (India). The great statue is a mix of sandstone blocks and red granite. It is possibly the largest built in India and was consecrated on 18 November 1989 by the 14th Dalai Lama. The foundation stone for the statue was placed in 1982.

Thai Monastery

Thai Monastery, Wat Thai Buddhagaya was established in 1956 by the government of Thailand on the request of the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. The monastery was constructed with an idea of propagating the philosophies of Buddhism among the masses. It is the only Thai Temple in India. The place abounds with peace and serenity and is ideal for solace seekers and those looking for a break from the humdrum of city life.Known for its exceptional architecture and stunning beauty, Wat Thai Bodhgaya is strikingly similar to the temples of Bangkok and is richly gilt and highly ornamental. It has a sloping roof covered with golden tiles. Considered as one of the most beautiful monasteries in Bodh Gaya, the sanctum of the temple houses a beautifully carved gigantic bronze statue of Lord Buddha. A 25 m high statue of Lord Buddha has been recently built in the garden near the Wat Thai Temple.

Royal Bhutan Monastery

Royal Bhutan Monastery is a magnificent Buddhist monastery and temple located in Bodhgaya, Bihar. The monastery features important instances from the life of Gautam Buddha in the form of clay carvings which attract millions of Buddhism followers from across the world. The King of Bhutan got this monastery constructed as a tribute to Lord Buddha. Indosan Nippon Japanese Temple

Built in the year 1972 with the help of international Buddhist communities, Indosan Nippon Japanese Temple is beautifully carved out of wood and looks very much like a Japanese shrine. It is a fine example of both Japanese architecture and Buddhist culture. Lying at a distance of about 15 km from the city centre, it is one of the most popular temples of Bodh Gaya. The temple was built to preserve and propagate Buddhism and the beliefs of Lord Buddha, and its walls have inscriptions of the teachings of Buddha. The gallery of the temple houses Japanese paintings that depict important events of Buddha's life. It is a must-visit place for all those who wish to learn more about Buddhist culture.

Metta Buddharam Temple

Metta Buddharam.Built in 2002, this temple was established by the Thai Buddhist community in Bodh Gaya, symbolizing their devotion and gratitude toward the sacred site of Buddha enlightenment, “Metta”, meaning loving‑kindness or friendship, the temple reflects the essence of compassion central to Buddhist teachings. The temple showcases Thai-style architecture with a striking outer shell of stainless steel, embellished with mirror mosaics that create a shimmering visual effects. Serving as both a sacred space and a spiritual learning center, the temple hosts meditation sessions, workshops, and Dharma talks aimed at cultivating mindfulness and inner growth.

Sujata Kuti

Sujata (sometimes referred to as Nandabala) was a village woman from Bakraur who offered Prince Siddhartha a bowl of milk-rice (kheer), ending his extreme asceticism. This act of compassion restored his strength and set him on the Middle Way—the path that ultimately led to his enlightenment,The structure dates back to around the 2nd century BCE, confirmed by Dark Grey polished wares and punch-marked coins found nearby.Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1973–74 and 2001–06 revealed a plaque inscribed with "Devapala Rajasya Sujata Griha"—interpreted as “Sujata House of King Devapala,” pointing to a 9th-century CE Pala dynasty enhancement of the site.

Dungeshwari Cave Temples

The Dungeshwari Hills—also referred to as Pragbodhi—are located about 12 km northeast of Bodh Gaya, along the Falgu River.According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha Gautama (the future Buddha) spent approximately six years in intense meditation and asceticism within these caves before realizing their futility and moving on to Bodh Gaya, where he would ultimately attain enlightenment.The cave complex includes three main caves: One houses a golden, emaciated Buddha sculpture, symbolizing his extreme penance.
