Blood Compact Monument
The Blood Compact Shrine, also known as the Sandugo Shrine, commemorates the historic blood compact or "sandugo" between Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, the chieftain of Bohol, in 1565. This event is considered the first treaty of friendship between Spaniards and Filipinos, symbolizing unity and peace. The shrine, located in Tagbilaran City, features a bronze sculpture by renowned artist Napoleon Abueva, depicting the leaders raising goblets of mixed blood as a sign of mutual respect. Set against a beautiful coastal backdrop, the site offers visitors both historical insight and scenic views, making it a meaningful stop for anyone exploring Bohol's rich cultural heritage.
Baclayon Church
Baclayon Church is one of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines, dating back to 1596. Located in Bohol, this National Cultural Treasure and UNESCO Tentative List site showcases Spanish colonial architecture with coral stone walls, wooden pillars, and intricate carvings. The church houses a museum with religious artifacts, old hymnal books, and centuries-old statues, offering a glimpse into the Philippines' early Christian heritage.

I had a great tour led by Winston and shared with two couples. There are not many group tours to see the Chocolate Hills/Tarsier sanctuary advertised on TripAdvisor (most are private), so I was glad to find this one. Winston was on time picking me up, friendly, and patient waiting for the others' pickup. Winston was a careful driver, and explained the instructions clearly for each section of the tour. He also helped take photos of us for each place, which was really kind of him. I thought the itinerary was well planned, and gave sufficient time at each location. The Chocolate Hills were beautiful and the tarsier sanctuary were the main highlights for me. The lunch along the Loboc river was fine; I did appreciate the helpful staff on the riverboat cruise as I had to inquire about food allergies (seafood) and they advised me well so I could eat safely. We ended the tour with a stop at the Baclayon Church before being dropped back at our hotels. The tour runs from 8am to approximately 3:30pm, which was the right amount of time for me.
