Villa Borghese
The best way for us to describe the Villa Borghese gardens is: As the keeper of the Villa Borghese Pinciana, I publicly declare: whoever you are, providing to be a freeman, fear no hindrance here; go where you like, ask what you wish; leave when you want. Everything you see was made more for the guest than for its landlord. In the golden century, when peaceful years made any thing splendid for the refined ones, the landlord forbade all iron rules for the guest. Let good faith be the only rule for our friend. But if someone, consciously and purposely, by wickedness and deceit, was to break the golden rules of courtesy, be alert, the angry keeper may break these friendly words on your head. (Latin inscription carved on marble plate at Villa Borghese).

We’ll admire Caravaggio’s most important paintings, among which “Young sick Bacchus” and “ Boy with a basket of fruit”; Bernini and Canova’s magnificent sculptures’ collection, boasting works like “Apollo and Daphne”, “David”, “The rape of Preserpina” and “Paolina Bonaparte”. Of course we won’t miss out on Raffaello’s “Entombment of Christ”. We will lead you through the marvelous rooms of Casina Borghese, with its splendid frescoes, we’ll disclose the secrets, the stories and the painting techniques concealed behind the masterpieces of one of the world’s most beautiful art museum. The Museum is a must see! Such amazing sculptures! Tour worked like clockwork…timed entrance, not overwhelmingly crowded. Tour guide Alicia (I believe) knows her stuff. She was charming. The audio worked great! I had to duck out early & didn’t have an opportunity to tip her, which I regret. Highly recommended

The Villa Borghese is fabulous in and of itself. Add professional and personable guide, Guido and you have a rich and meaningful experience. Guido provided context and insight that otherwise would not have been my experience. It was enriching and very satisfying. Even those who are not fans of art would enjoy and benefit by seeing the amazing works and understanding the influences by which they came to exist. I'm very grateful for the experience and the light Guido provided.

Wonderful guide. Completely misleading title. Not Canova’s masterpieces but general tour through the Villa, focusing on Bernini, Raffaello, Algardi and Caravaggio (plus one marvelous Canova) We were very glad of it.

Serena, our guide, was excellent - taking time to explain in detail and not rushing us at all. Would highly recommend this tour. It was our best tour experience in Rome

This was a beautiful way to see the museum efficiently! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the museum and treasures inside. I only have a basic foundation in Italian art and artists, and it was wonderful to have our guide discuss not only the pieces but the art in context in its time and impact thereafter. This was the highlight of our trip for me.

The guide was at a lost for the English word several times. She didn’t utilize her time wisely and jumped from idea to idea. When asked a question she was unable to give an answer and would talk around the question to make it seem like she answered.

The tour was scheduled for 13, but the agency passed the wrong time for the guide, so a lot of people could not attend and the group became smaller, which was good. But the issue of wrong time is complicated, especially for those who do not have much time in Rome. The guide was very good, passed several important information.
