You will become guests priority climb to the top Borobudur temple This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s. Highlighting the stone reliefs and the many faces of Buddha.

A tour is only as good as its guide, and Pak Dani was exceptional! Dani’s exceptional knowledge brought the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of Borobudur and Prambanan temples and the Ramayana ballet to life, providing more than a standard sightseeing tour. Beyond the sites themselves, Dani navigated expertly, with local insider knowledge and connections to get us around more smoothly. He offered excellent local food recommendations, giving us a more authentic and well-rounded experience of Yogyakarta. Highly recommend this tour company (and guide) for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Yogyakarta’s heritage.

Bima, our driver and guide, was knowledgeable and attentive. We started with Borobodur where Bima was mindful about our needs and guided is all the way to the local guide. He made sure to show us to the restroom and also explained to us what to expect. After Borobodur we went to Prabanam where Bima truly shines. He explained to us the local legend and the history of the place while helping us capture the moments at the most scenic spots. He also made sure to get us the show tickets while we had dinner and we had a very good seats to the evening show. He also drove us around the city afterwards and tried his best to accommodate our needs and answer our questions. We would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a warm and welcoming guide.

This was the most incredible experience. The temples and Ramayana were breathtaking. Bima was a fantastic driver and guide. He took the time to explain the Ramayana story so we could follow along easier during the ballet. He also was very knowledgeable about the temples and their history. And he had a great suggestion for lunch. His English is great too! Thank you, Bima!!!

Great day out with Bima our guide. He was very knowledgeable and paced the day well. The temples are amazing but unfortunately we didn’t get to see the ballet as it was raining. Bima tried very hard to get us indoor tickets but there was limited capacity. Couldn’t fault Bima as he was exceptionally accommodating and went out of his way to help.

The climb to the top of Borobudur is less daunting than it might seem and well worth the effort - you are required to be accompanied by a guide (employed by the UNESCO-recognized site) who stops at nearly each of the nine levels up to pause for info sharing and letting all of the people in your group catch their breath. The step risers are mostly not very steep. The Prambanan Hindu temple complex is a different experience, magical in it's own right, and the Ramayana "ballet" is a charmingly clunky but earnest performance of an old traditional Javanese mythic story that will be memorable. Our driving guide, Hizta, was a knowledgeable, warm, hard-working man who was open to and well able to respond to questions about literally every aspect of Yogyakarta society. He was more than capable of managing the dual role, and there were lagniappes (unexpected little extras) along the way. An excellent day trip (13 hours - about four-and-a-half drive time). Ask WeeDee, the service manager, for Hizta - and request that if possible you are assigned to the "top" Borodudor guide, a 25-year veteran there who is arguably the star of the show.
