Cesky Krumlov Castle
The Castle of Cesky Krumlov is the number one attraction in the town. Composed of five courtyards and 11 hectares of gardens, it attracts tourists from all over the world. Cesky Krumlov Castle became the primary residence of the Rosenbergs in 1302, and they remained there for nearly 300 years, greatly influencing the castle’s and town’s history. A golden carriage in the castle is sure to amaze. Constructed from gilded walnut in 1638, the carriage was used to transport presents from newly-elected Emperor Ferdinand III von Habsburg to Pope Urban VIII. That is not all Cesky Krumlov has to offer. Its Baroque theatre is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Constructed from 1680 to 1682, it is one of only several Baroque theatres in the world with its original stage machinery, costumes, scenery, and props. Our guide can show you the castle exteriors. If you wish to explore castle interiors, you can buy admission on the spot by card and join a castle group tour conducted by a castle guide.

If you have a day to spare in Prague, this is a trip you shouldn’t miss. Cesky Krumlov presents the Europian architecture in all its glory. Walking on the cobbled streets, the well laid out gardens and gurgling stream actually sends you back to the medieval times and when you hear the stories of the barber’s daughter being thrown out of the castle windows not once but twice having survived her first trauma, narrated so interestingly by your English speaking guide, none other than Mr George, it really gives you the shivers. If you’re a treasure hunter then you must not miss the green coloured stone jewellery unique to this area which got created from meteorite’s debris hitting this area a few millennium back. Our lunch sitting next to the gurgling stream is something I will remember for a long time. An added attraction of this tour if you take it from Prague is the visit to the Kozel brewery where you get to experience the entire beer making process ending with a freshly brewed beer tasting session. But honestly how much you savour and enjoy the trip totally depends on superbly knowledgeable guides like Mr George because the history and the geography of the place is what it makes so unique . Geography comes from nature and the history from people like George. One word of caution though… this trip needs a lot of walking on uneven cobblestones… and the brewery trip lots of moving up and down stairs.

A pleasant drive from Prague, the fairytale city of Cesky Krumlov takes you back in time to an opulent castle, a charming town, delicious local cuisine and the option to raft down a lazy river. My driver, Robert, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of Czechia - there wasn’t a question I asked which he couldn’t answer. As a solo female travel, Robert made me feel safe and looked after.
