Our walk will take us around the neighbourhood of Chacarita - an area rarely visited by tourists: You will discover an alternative side of Buenos Aires, away from the trendy restaurants, tour buses and the grandiose buildings of downtown.
We will start our walk in Parque los Andes, which at the weekend transforms from a sleepy park into a bustling flea market. If you are visiting at the weekend, we will take a look at the stools.
We will learn the story of Gauchito Gil - an Argentine folk hero. We will take a look inside a shrine and see how people pay their respect to this quasi-saint gaucho
We will then make our way to Chacarita Cemetery which has a fascinating (AND SPOOKY) history. We will see the impressive tombs and mausoleums which were built during the country’s belle epoquê period.
To finish we will stop for a snack at a local pizzeria dating from 1947. We will try a slice of Argentine pizza and enjoy a beer, glass of wine or a soft drink!

BERTIE WAS THE CONSUMMATE KNOWLEGABLE, FUN & INSIGHTFUL LOCAL TOUR GUIDE! He shared knowledge of regional culture, history, the evolution of Argentina and Buenos Aires through centuries of colonization & development, political upheavals and food culture! We explored a fascinating gigantic cemetery with truly monolithic tombs. SO FUN AND ENLIGHTENING! Bertie ALSO helped guide us to other meaningful experiences, restaurants and hidden gems that we would NEVER have known about, if not for him and his generosity. The delicious local pizza at the end was satisfying and a perfect end to a wonderful tour. HIGHEST MARKS POSSIBLE!

Bertie was a great guide to show me this huge cemetery in Chacarita. This cemetery is larger than Recoleta’s but is just as interesting with all the mausoleums. Also included was delicious Argentine pizza at a local spot after the tour. It was an interesting tour and I highly recommend it!
