Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately an hour drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

Las playas de Mahahual son de las mas extensas en el Caribe Mexicano, con interminables kilómetros de blanca arena, palmeras y un mar de tono azul turquesa con oleaje casi imperceptible por el arrecife llamado "banco chinchorro" que actúa como rompeolas. Sus aguas cálidas, son una invitación a pasearse todo el día nadando, recorrer el boulevard que esta lleno de tiendas para comprar souvenirs o simplemente relajarte y disfrutar los masajes frente al mar y probar los auténticos platillos de la gastronomía mexicana.

2.00We were a bit disappointed with this tour. Our driver, Eric was great, but our tour guide was not. Our guide taught us to count in Mayan using our fingers and showed us photos of animals supposedly at the ruin. We learned about the rock used to construct the structures and the restoration line. Everything else was on an informational plaque. We were reminded multiple times of the number of tours that he had conducted that day. He made numerous, loud animal-like noises, leading some to think there were monkeys around, but it was frankly incredibly obnoxious. At the largest structure, you have to climb a number of stairs. Our guide told us the safest route to climb and we were left to explore on our own. He stayed at the bottom and waited for us. We walked about huge groups, which we didn’t have. Their guides explained the route of the sun path on site amongst other things that I overheard. At the end of our tour, our guide says, “This is where I leave you, I have another tour.” He stepped aside and let us all walk away back to the van. Our driver was kind and courteous and the only reason that this justified any stars at all. Our money would have been better spent on a taxi.

5.00Good excursions to do instead of the cruise ship excursion. This is affordable, it's check in was easy and easy to find. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and air conditioned. The guide was knowledgeable, and they get you back on time.

4.00For what it’s worth, the tour was great. Quick, efficient, and the guide was very informative. It was nice not to be in a giant bus from the cruise lines as you got more of a personal touch. You also received bottles of water throughout the journey. My only gripe (which has nothing to do with the crew) is how bumpy the ride was to the site! If you have a bad back, DO NOT sit in the back of the van. Otherwise, have a great time. FYI - there doesn’t seem to be much to do in Costa Maya - so more than 90 percent of the passengers will be joining you.

4.00Its not 5 star just because beach ... The beach was not good, sea was unclean and boats passed all the time with smell of diesel. Mayan ruins were fanrastic
