What To Expect
Experience the enchanting darkness of Lake Tekapo's night sky! Learn fascinating astronomy tidbits and tales of stars and constellations. Get up close with our powerful telescope to spot deep sky wonders. We'll capture a memorable photo of you beneath the stars. Afterward, gather around for marshmallow toasting on the fire bowl! Relax in our cozy seats with soft blankets for a stellar evening. VERY IMPORTANT (for guests booking a tour starting after midnight) If you are booking a tour starting after midnight, please double check you selected the correct date. e.g. If your tour starts at 12:30am 1st Jan, it will happen on the night between 31st Dec and 1st Jan, so you will need to be in Lake Tekapo on 31st Dec. If you are not sure about the date and time, please send us an email. The night sky is different every night, depending on weather conditions, moon phases, aurora activity, and the natural rotation of the sky. The photos displayed on our products are examples, and may not reflect the exact sky you will see during your session.

5.00The tour was truly wonderful. When I had a question and sent a message, I received a reply very quickly. I was also very satisfied with the tour itself. The guide’s explanations about the stars were clear and detailed, and they answered all the participants’ questions carefully. They also provided hot chocolate and other thoughtful services, which made it possible to spend the cold late night comfortably and without worry. The souvenir light and the photos will be lifelong memories for me. Thank you very much.

5.00Loved the motivation and passion with that all sorts of information were shared, both scientific and cultural. The laughs in between made it fun and very entertaining, the hot chocolates, cozy blankets and marshmallows at the fireplace just added to the great experience. Will definitely recommend, thank you!

5.00We have done 2 different Stargazing tours at Lake Tekapo. Chameleon Stargazing was far superior compared to the more commercial company in town. Chameleon has state of the art telescopes and shows you mind blowing Nebulas, incredible star clusters and all planets available. Everything was very clear and so beautiful it made me cry. ☺️ Staff was exceptional and even on a partly full moon night we were enchanted. We received fantastic keepsake photos of everything we saw and a photo of us against the night sky. They even did a special one for me holding a star because it was my birthday. (To contrast, this time we went to the summit for a different experience and were disappointed. Staff was excellent, but the equipment seemed outdated, images were small and not clear, sky objects we saw were not really impressive, there were too many people and no fun memory keepsakes. Also it was twice the price. We did get to see Lake Tekapo under a near full moon which was quite impressive, but not actually part of the tour).

5.00We had an absolutely incredible stargazing tour yesterday and it was truly a highlight of our trip. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much fascinating information. The location was stunning, and although the day had been a bit cloudy, the night turned out to be absolutely perfect for stargazing. We were incredibly lucky to witness the strongest solar storm in over 20 years, which meant we were able to enjoy the Aurora Australis throughout the entire tour – an unforgettable experience. Beautiful photos of us and the night sky were taken and later shared with us. We were well taken care of with warm blankets on a cold night, delicious hot chocolate, and even roasted marshmallows by the fire at the end. Everything was perfectly organized, warm, and welcoming. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone – it was simply amazing.

5.00This was a fabulous experience, we were lucky enough to see a 7 Aurora Australis, George was amazing and made the night very enjoyable and he's so knowledgeable. We were given blankets, a comfy chair, hot chocolate and marshmallows for toasting. By the fire. Highly recommend, we expected it to be cancelled as it was cloudy in the day and evening, but perfectly clear for our experience. Sent photos from the telescope and of our family. It really was amazing. Our daughter had done another in Tekapo 2 years prior but said this was so much better. You won't be disappointed!

5.00WOW! Honestly this was one of the best nights of our entire 6 month travel trip. MOK was an incredible guide, she taught us so much about the night sky. The telescope part of the tour was amazing - she showed us galaxies, nebulas and Jupiter! We also got a professional photo taken and got sent all the professional telescope photos of the night for free which I thought was such an amazing additional touch. I recommend this to absolutely everyone!
