The Charleston Water Taxi provides an inexpensive way to spend time between the Charleston City Market, the International African American Museum, Waterfront Park and Patriots Point, which is the site of the USS Yorktown. The Water Taxi reduces the use of your automobile, which requires finding a parking space and feeding a parking meter a $3 fee each time you stop. In October 2025 it cost only $17 a person and will give you less stress.

We’d certainly use the Charleston water taxi again. It was a scenic, relaxing, breezy ride that was prompt and easy to use. We took it between Waterfront Park and Patriots Point and back. The taxi was clean and on time. (Don’t be late.) It also has a roof for shade. The drivers were friendly, answered questions and pointed out dolphins. I didn’t see a directional sign at street for Water taxi, but maybe I missed it. So at 1 Vendue Range, head toward the water, passing a fountain, on way to a long beautiful T-shaped pier with seating and porch swings under roof. Water taxi docked at pier’s end, left at T. Look for a small red flag. Although we had no schedule conflicts, I recommend double checking the water taxi schedule for first and last pick up times at your preferred stop on your day of use to avoid getting stranded or missing a reservation. I noticed that the final pickup was earlier than what was posted on their website or ticket and was not related to weather. Also unsure if this is handicapped accessible.

If you’re visiting Charleston and want a fun, scenic, and affordable way to get around the harbor, the Charleston Water Taxi is a must-do. It’s not just transportation — it’s an experience. The ride between Waterfront Park, Patriots Point, and the Aquarium Wharf gives you some of the best views of the city skyline, the Ravenel Bridge, and Fort Sumter in the distance. The captains and crew are friendly, knowledgeable, and make the trip enjoyable with local facts and a few laughs along the way. Dolphins often swim alongside the boat, which is a bonus you can’t plan for but happens surprisingly often! The taxi runs on a reliable schedule and is an excellent alternative to driving or dealing with parking downtown. Tickets are reasonably priced, and you can ride all day with unlimited hops between stops — perfect for sightseeing or spending the day between downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Overall, the Charleston Water Taxi is one of the best ways to experience the Lowcountry from the water — relaxing, scenic, and quintessentially Charleston.

Great ride. I can’t recall the name of the captain, but he had a beard and a little dog, and he was excellent. He spent extra time circling a group of dolphins, and he narrated the trip providing info on different sites.
