This was a great experience. I’ve always wanted to go on an architectural tour and I am very happy that I chose this one. The docent was so knowledgeable and really explained the history behind the buildings and how they related to the overall history of Chicago.

I was born and raised in Northwest Indiana and frequented Chicago all through my young life. After moving to California 33 years ago for work and just having passed the 54-year mark, I've visited every major U.S. city and most smaller cities. Chicago remains my all-time favorite. I visit whenever possible and always do a tour; I've done several walking and river boat tours with CAC. During my last trip, I decided to do yet another. Our volunteer guide/docent Chris was wonderful—so knowledgeable and personable, with fabulous dry humor. If you're looking for maximum effort and wow factor (and a little education), definitely do a tour aboard the First Lady to get that truly magnificent impression of the Windy City. First-timer or city native, it's a great way to spend 90 minutes. Would love for it to be even longer. So much amazing architecture and fascinating history. Thanks for yet another great tour, CAC!

Russel was an exceptional tour guide. Very knowledgeable. I love that we did this tour day 1 so that traveling throughout the city the rest of the trip I was able to connect points of interest to the tour and knowledge.

I went on the Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise aboard First Lady, and honestly, it was one of the best things I did in the city. Our guide, Mike the Mapmaker, was phenomenal. You could tell immediately that he not only knew everything about Chicago’s buildings but genuinely loved sharing that knowledge. His passion and storytelling made the whole experience come alive — I found myself completely drawn in, even while fighting off a hangover and running on zero sleep. That’s how good he was. Captain Diamond was also fantastic — smooth sailing, funny, and kept the good vibes going. If you’re even remotely interested in architecture, history, or just want to sit on a boat with a great view and smarter people than you talking about cool buildings — go. And if you’re lucky enough to get Mike the Mapmaker, you’re in for a treat.

Awesome tour!! Very informative! It was a beautiful day but a little chilly in the shade. The heated area below was a welcome touch! Seeing Chicago from this perspective is a must!!
