This is a great way to learn about the different architecture styles. Well narrated and lots of opportunities to take great photos as you are sitting out in the open. Don't forget sunscreen. Drinks and snacks can be purchased on the boat.

Chicago is filled with architecturally significant buildings, and seeing them from the river reveals details that you would probably miss just wandering around the city on foot. Any old boat ride along this route would be a worthwhile experience, but this tour guide was unusually knowledgable and engaging (we have done river/waterfront cruises in many US and European cities--this one is a standout). In spite of its being a miserably rainy day and there being two busloads of noisy schoolkids aboard, we found it a very enjoyable tour.
