Our driver was Manuel and our tour guide was Pastor and they both were great! Pastor informed us of a bunch of great facts and Manuel drove us long distances.

The tour was good overall. The guides Omar and Pastor were stellar. They were friendly, funny, and kind throughout the trip. They also explained the reason behind Chichen Itza’s closure and went through the background of Ek Balam in detail with us. My only critique is the pickup process. It was late and we weren’t kept up to date with its arrival. I even called the support number which was not helpful either.

The night before received this message: You received the below message(s) from Amigo Tours: Booking updated for May 26, 2026. Please review the below. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chichen Itza archeological zone is currently closed by the INAH (Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia). Unfortunately, as an unforeseen circumstances unrelated to Amigotours operation, we see ourselves in the need to visit a different archeological zone instead. Tomorrow's departure will be visiting the archeological zone of Ek Balam, located near Valladolid colonial town. This archeological zone features beautiful mayan scenery and architecture just like Chichen Itza, in which you'll be able to climb the pyramid to appreciate amazing views like the ancient Mayans. Pay the local tax at Ek Balam in cash for 709 MXN per person at the ticket booths in the archeological zone. For Mexican citizens, 242 MXN per person, but must present either an INE, IFE, FM2, FM3, or passport, any of which must be current; if you do not bring one, you will have to pay the fee as foreign visitors, which is 709 MXN per person. All payments must be done in cash at the ticket booths for this archeological zone in Mexican pesos. -Amigo Tours On the morning of the tour, we were waiting at our pick up location, the bus arrived and the guide came out to check our names against his list. Our names were not there and so he called someone and then informed us that we did not confirm that we were going to Ek Balam and that they had no space on the bus. To our outrage we showed him the message, asking where it said that we had to confirm. But he just said sorry and left. Us two were the only people at this pick up stop, so why did they even come to this pickup location in the first place if they did not have space on the bus? Why was there no communication saying that we had to confirm anything? We contacted customer service asking why this mishap had happened and why our seats were not accounted for but they were useless - saying things like “ Hello enjoy your tour!” or “ There is a current protest at the entrance of Chichen Itzá so nobody can acces” . The last message I received from them is “ We requested your confirmation yesterday so we could include you in the lists of Ek Balam. Since you did not reply, the activity wasn´t confirmed and todau we no longer had room on rhe bus” to which I asked AGAIN, where did it say I had to confirm anything? My credit card was already charged, and the change to Ek Balam only happened a day before our tour and so how does a tour sell out that quickly to not have room for 2 people who were supposed to be on the trip since the very beginning. Totally ruined our day and still do not understand why we’re not able to attend. Nor do I understand what I was supposed to confirm. Horrible customer service experience.

Chichen Itza was closed for tourists due to local protests. As a result the tour operator pivoted to Ek Balam which is another great archeological site. I liked the resilience displayed however I am not happy that the tour operator was aware of the strikes and elected to hide this information from tourists. It was underhanded and deceitful which is why I am rating this poorly. The tour guide was brilliant with information, knowledge base and mannerisms. The blame is only towards Amigo Tour company.

Such an amazing Cancun experience!! Omar, Pastor, and Manwell were incredible guides and made the whole day so fun. We got to see the Mayan ruins, climb a Mayan tower, swim, eat an amazing buffet, and visit a beautiful old church. Omar, Pastor, and Manwell were all super knowledgeable, funny, and made everything feel so special. Definitely one of the best parts of our trip. Highly recommend!!

The activities itself were nice, however, 2+ hours of the morning were spent picking up guests and another 3 hours at the end of the day were spent dropping off guests. In total, our day was 14 hours instead of the 12 hours advertised, and we missed our dinner reservation (got back to our resort at 10 PM).

Edition: Go to Ek Balam due to the chichen itza being closed due to protests. It was great! Everything went as planned. Pick-up in a smaller van, at the scheduled time 05H15, which took us from the hotel in Playacar to near Cancún, where we switched to a bus, Both transports had air conditioning, which was great, Already on the bus and with the group gathered, the team of Amigo Tours composed of Ruam, Ramiro and Fabian, explained us the entire itinerary and rules (hours to comply and organization). Ruam assumed the role of speaker on the bus and adding humor to his speech He was able to animate and awaken the whole group on an excursion that began very early. He explained a lot about the Maya culture, some of its artifacts, instruments and the archaeological sites raising the experience for us, clients. After seeing several comments saying that they stayed little time in some places, now I understand why, there are restrictions... but I found more than suitable time and above all, ALL very well organized so as not to stay in places crowded with tourists. Thank you Amigo Tours!

Be prepared for a long, hot day - but it is filled with history, one of a kind experiences and good food & drink. Our bus driver was Noe & he made sure we got to all the places on time & safely. Our guides were Frank & Audi - they know SO much history and are fantastic story tellers. We greatly enjoyed learning what they had to teach us and seeing the history for ourselves.
