The Laojuncave Taoist temple is located on Laojun Mountain near Huangjueya in Nanshan Subdistrict, Nanan District, Chongqing. Covering an area of 223 acres, it was first built during the Tang Dynasty. After being rebuilt and expanded in the 16th year of the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1480), it was renamed the Taiji Palace, and later also called Laojun Cave. The Taoist temple is built into the mountainside and boasts a grand and majestic architecture. Originally named Tushan Ancient Cave, it is also known as Taiji Palace and is one of China’s important Taoist temples, earning the title of “The First Taoist Temple in Eastern Sichuan.” Nowadays, tourists are crazy for the jaw falling view and interesting Taoism culture, which reflects Chinese people’s opinions on health, death, tranquility of life styles.

I greatly enjoyed spending the day with Eric & Isa. They are knowledgeable and super nice and welcoming. Visiting Nanshan mountain and the Karst cave was the perfect activity for a hot summer day (40+ degrees) as the hike is mostly covered in the shadow and the cave is cool. It also gave me some of the best views of Chongqing. We ended the day in Longmenhao Old Street which nicely balanced the more quiet nature earlier in the day with a busy city vibe.
