Join us at the Oxbow Gun Club, where you and your mates can enjoy a spot of healthy competition shooting clay targets out of the sky against one of New Zealand’s most magnificent backdrops.
Enjoy one-on-one guidance in Clay Bird Shooting from an experienced instructor, ensuring few clays get away alive.
When it comes to firearms, safety is always of the utmost importance. Oxbow prioritises safety first for our Clay Bird Shooting adventure. Not only will you go through a thorough safety briefing and gun safety demonstration, but you will also be provided with high-quality protective gear, including earmuffs, glasses and a shooting vest.
The stand facilitates six shooters per session; each shooter is positioned in their own stand with safety barriers to ensure safe operation at all times.

What To Expect
We can accommodate singles and groups of all sizes for Clay Target Shooting. Our custom-designed compact sporting field is equipped with eight automatic clay target throwers to suit all abilities; it also includes the run-away rabbit across the ground (don’t worry, it’s not the real thing!). For the more experienced shooters or those wanting an extra challenge, we offer the choice of a 25 or 50 Bird ‘Flurry’. We’ll provide the shotguns and protective gear, so all you have to do is ready, aim, fire!

5.00My husband and I visited New Zealand for our 1 year anniversary and we had a great time celebrating with adventure. Our instructor Skinny was THE BEST! He showed us expert techniques with a simple explanation and had encouraging and fun energy that had all of us having a great time. I recommend this activity and best if you book Skinny as your guide!

5.00Friendly staff, good safety briefing and excellent tuition. Nick was a great instructor and as a complete novice I was put at ease- I even managed to hit a respectable number of targets. My son is more experienced but also learnt from the coaching. A great experience.

5.00A totally enjoyable experience. Safety was Oxbow’s priority and their whole set up was professional but also our whole family had such a great time. I expected that maybe one of us might hit one of the clay targets. With Skinny’s advice and assistance all five of us were able to hit many targets which surprised us all. Surprisingly we’re all keen to visit again.

5.00While this was a unique and somewhat scary experience for me, I thought it was very well run and super safe. My kids had a ball and felt that the instructors were very good and making sure we really knew what we were doing and that we would have fun.

5.00This was our second time doing clay shooting. We took our friends along as we had an amazing time in February and thought we would share the experience with them. Well OXBOW did not let us down. If you have never shot a gun before don't worry, the instructors are fantastic at teaching you how to handle the gun and successfully shoot a target. We all came away with having success at hitting the clay targets due to the detailed instruction and guidance from our instructor. There is nothing to fear, just have fun!
