This hour and a half class provides the average person exposure to an ancient sport many know little about. By discussing several different types of birds–eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons–the student gains a new appreciation for the bird’s inherent abilities and the nature of predation. After discussing the birds, the hawks are flown free in the surrounding countryside. The hour lesson concludes with each student having an opportunity to put on a leather glove and hold our trained Saker Falcon. There is a licensed falconer who oversees and presents each experience. The birds engage by their own will.

The beginner/intermediate combo falconry class was our birthday present to ourselves and I am not sure how future birthdays will top this. We had an absolutely amazing experience with Roger, Gabe and the falcons and owls. We got more hands-on time than I expected and learned much more than I thought we would. I would highly recommend this experience if you're in Colorado Springs.

We had a wonderful time meeting and flying the birds with Deanna! She is smart, friendly, easy to chat with, and great with the birds. The whole morning was terrific; we love getting to see all the raptors, and our hawk, Maverick, was a wonderful ambassador. Great pictures and great memories.

My parents and I (all adults) recently took the beginning falconry class. This was my big wish for our trip. I blame it on growing up reading the My Side of the Mountain series. The class was fabulous - everything I could have hoped for. I had watched lots of YouTube videos doing research for our trip and it was lovely to meet all the birds. We learned a lot, saw some hunting demonstrations, and took a short "hawk walk" where everyone got pictures with Phoenix and later took pictures holding another bird. Some things you should know - the Broadmoor offers a military discount, but you specifically have to ask for it. The outdoor adventures meetup area has handicap parking, but no bathroom. You have to walk across the street to access the nearest bathroom. Might be best to just go before you arrive. Most areas have seating if you need it, but if you are a little unsteady I found trekking poles to be terrific for the hawk walk. No non-paying guests are allowed to attend with a participant to take photos. However, aside from the falconer, a helper will be there for the class and she takes great photos. Thank you Delaney for walking with me, sharing your knowledge, and taking pictures to share! I know its an expensive class, but the value is outstanding. I would take the intermediate class in a heartbeat if I lived nearby.

It was an outstanding experience participating with the Head falconer and her gorgeous birds!! We not only got to receive lots of education about the birds we got to feed them and see them in flight! We visit the Broadmoor hotel frequently and will do the falcon experience every single time we come…. It is definitely the highlight of the trip…

We got exactly what we had hoped for when we signed up for the falconry beginner + advanced course and perhaps a touch more. I'd say this was equal parts education and activity. Like other premium nature experiences, this came with a pretty hefty price tag but it was still probably worth it especially if it's your first time. Deanna was our guide and was very accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate for her animals. You could tell the beginning of the course was a bit rudimentary but things picked up afterwards and that's when those dues start to pay off. Overall, if you're new to falconry, this is a great experience and I would certainly recommend it.

I signed up for both the beginner and intermediate sessions. Deanna conducted the sessions with travel assistance from Delany. Deanna explained the history of falconry with added insights on the birds of prey that were resident at the falconry location in Broadmoor. The best part was seeing the different owls, hawks, and peregrine falcons respond in flight, zero in, and land properly in the handler's hand. What a great experience! Thank you, Deanna!!

Our family had so much fun in the Beginner Falconry class. Not only was it educational, but it was also a bucket list activity. Deeana, our instructor, was wonderful. To say the least, we were all very impressed with her knowledge of the falconry sport. We are looking forward to returning to the Broadmoor for the intermediate falconry experience.

We had an amazing time and learned so much! Roger was sooo knowledgable and made the experience so much fun. We loved being able to hold the falcon- so cool! The 90 minutes flew by. The birds were beautiful and majestic and it was such a fun surprise to be able to pet a few of them! We enjoyed the many parts of the day-a stop by the bird cages, the trip inside the owl room, the walk with the hawk through the woods. It was a wonderfully planned afternoon and we couldn’t recommend it more. We left with smiles on our faces. Thank you so much Roger! Highly recommend booking this tour!

We learned about hawks, falcons and owls in a small group setting. We watched owls and hawk flying demonstrations up close. We all wore the glove and interacted with a falcon up close
