We were charged and signed up for a full areana tour of the coliseum. While we did get the other areas that is not what we wanted most. The night before we were told “all of a sudden” they are not allowing in any tour operator. NOT TRUE. We went on our own and there were more tour operators than individuals. They must have lost their license but we paid prime for a VERY subprime experience. They offered 20% off portion, a joke and honestly, with the quality of our guide, it was best to not listen to him. I would look local and stay away from Viator. By the time they warned us about our tour not being guided it was the night before and too late to cancel. I emailed but never heard back, surprise.

The colosseum tour was fantastic. It was a wonderful experience. Tatiana is the best tour guide we have had. My children and wife loved her. From the first minute we noticed the knowledge and passion she has, she explained to us with detail, books, and experience. I would highly recommend her. She is full of knowledge and knew how to transfer that information to all of us and kept us engaged. Great personality, we had the greatest time. The people where to redeem the voucher and sticker were not helpful and rude. Luckily we had Tatiana who got the stickers for us. The change of time created issue with us for other tour we had already scheduled. Wish you would have given us 48 hours notice for the time change.

A decent introductory tour to the locations (Forum, Palatine Hill, Colosseum) covered. EXPERIENCE COST - In retrospect, it felt a bit pricey for what we got from it. I feel like tickets + a good guide book would have served just as well and far more flexible. LENGTH OF VISIT - This got a little dicey. The tour officially started 90 minutes before our entry time for the Colosseum, so clearly we were starting at the Forum end of things. It still took over half an hour to get through the admission line into the Forum. Once there it felt like we barely scratched the surface of the location, and it remains the place I most want to travel to in depth. The Palatine Hill part was even sketchier. We walked through it largely to get back over to the Colosseum. The Colosseum we had more than enough time for. That part of the "tour" was unguided, though; we received a note from the tour operator (Show Me Italy) the day before that the Colosseum was not letting guides (or their guides) onto the premises, so basically we got some brief facts while walking toward the Colosseum, then were allowed to visit on our own. (Top advice for the Colosseum on your own: there is a large map on the ground level after you pass all the screening that shows the route they want you to take. Plan on taking that route, because it's difficult to double back and visit something you missed the first time. It's doable, and the Colosseum staff will open up barriers to let you do so ... but there is definitely a recommended course.) TOUR GUIDE - Friendly and interesting, but he didn't have enough material at hand to cover the delays getting in and still give us fresh info was we rushed through the Forum (we heard about the Vestal Virgins passing judgment at the Colosseum a dozen times as we went). Our guide had a pretty thick accent, so it wasn't always easy to follow what he was saying. On the other hand, he did answer questions put to him, and answered them well. CROWD SIZE - This was a "semi-private" tour, so we had only 10. That worked out pretty decent and flexibly. The crowds at the venues, particularly in the Forum and especially at the Colosseum, were pretty bad. IN RETROSPECT: I might have instead dealt with the Forum/Palatine as a separate trip, taking much more time to visit the various locations. The Colosseum is a must-see, but also kind of a once-see, and that point came to us pretty quickly as we circled around. I'm not sure that having a tour guide added a whole lot to our experience, especially given the time imbalance.

Tour time changed to earlier. We arrived at new time only to stand for over an hour in the heat. When the tour did start it was not what we paid for. We paid for guided colosseum with arena floor and only got entrance ticket. Sergio our guide for the forum was good.

I was given a sticker for a group which didn't exist. The guide for the replacement group never turned up. It was utter chaos. Just go in by yourselves , we were told.

Great tour! We had someone who was walking with a cane in our group, and the tour guide went at a manageable pace for everyone with lots of breaks!
