Crowfoot Glacier
Crowfoot Glacier Viewpoint offers a striking look at one of the Icefields Parkway’s most recognizable mountain features, where the glacier clings to the edge of Mount Crowfoot above the highway. The shape of the glacier, once resembling a crow’s foot, creates a dramatic natural landmark against the rugged alpine backdrop. This stop highlights the power of time and climate in the Rockies, with sweeping mountain scenery and wide-open views that make it an ideal short pause for photography and appreciation of the landscape.
Bow Lake
Bow Lake is a striking glacial lake along the Icefields Parkway, where deep blue waters sit beneath the vast presence of the Crowfoot Glacier. The landscape feels raw and untouched, with rugged peaks rising sharply around the shoreline. It’s a calm yet powerful stop where the scale of the Rockies becomes immediately visible. The still water often mirrors the surrounding mountains, creating a dramatic and memorable viewpoint for photography and short exploration along the shore.

I recently booked a Jasper & Icefields tour with Wild Northern Journey along with a friend, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Andy, was fantastic—super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Banff National Park, the mountains, and the surrounding areas. You can really tell he loves what he does, and it made the whole journey even more enjoyable. The Icefields experience was truly once in a lifetime. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the lakes were just stunning—especially Peyto Lake, which was definitely a highlight of the trip. We also visited Abraham Lake, but it wasn’t fully frozen yet, so we missed seeing the famous bubbles. That just means we’ll be back again next winter! Honestly, I used to think New Zealand was the most beautiful place on Earth since I’ve lived there, but Banff National Park on a good day is simply unbeatable. Huge thanks to Wild Northern Journey for such an amazing tour. Highly recommend
