What To Expect

Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre

No trip to Jasper is complete without a visit to the famed Columbia Icefield, the largest ice field in the Canadian Rockies. Jaw-dropping views of towering mountains, rocks, ice and pure white snow as far as the eye can see. From the Discovery Centre, you will board a specialized Ice Explorer that will take you down a frozen roadway to the Athabasca Glacier. Along the way, your driver will provide commentary about glaciers, their impact upon the local ecosystem, and the environmental changes rapidly transforming these massive scenic wonders. Once you reach the Athabasca Glacier, you will have the opportunity to hop out, walk along the glacier and even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt. Once the tour is complete, you will head over to the Glacier Skywalk, where you will walk along the glass bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. After stopping to appreciate the incredible view and capture a few photographs, it's back to the Discovery Center.

Very well organised.. Just remember to check in at the desk first to have your ticket printed. Great guide, very informative. First you go to the glacier than to the glass walkway. We drank the glacier water it was amazing.

What an incredible experience! Our tour guide was fun, friendly, and informative, and the driver of the large Ice Explorer made the ride up to the Columbia Icefield both safe and exciting. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and we had perfect weather with plenty of great photo opportunities. Everything was well organized. From check-in to boarding the Ice Explorers, and the meeting area was convenient with coffee, restrooms, and a gift shop. The Skywalk was also a highlight. Walking on glass and seeing the ground far below was thrilling! (I only wish those monster buses could drive us around everywhere — kidding!) A fantastic, well-run tour that’s not to be missed!

Impressive tour of the glacier with lots of information about its formation and development. Although for safety reasons (understandably) only a small part is cleared for entry, the stay there was a unique experience. A special thanks goes to Andy who is not only a good driver but also a great guide and great photographer! The Skywalk is then a great end with beautiful views of the glacier from a distance

It was an incredible experience, and we had the most amazing guide, Leanne! Other than one supremely rude ticket taker at the beginning, every other person seemed to genuinely love their job and was so kind. Make sure to go to the ticket counter first and show them your voucher so they can give you your tickets. Also, the voucher doesn’t tell you, but they close the doors for boarding 2 minutes before your listed departure time so make sure you get there earlier. I don’t know what I was expecting but you will only have a small cordoned off section of the glacier to walk around.

The tour/activity itself was awesome. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun!! I would have given it 5 star, bur we got lost because of the meeting point link provided by viator in the voucher. We wasted our time driving about 45min more! It completely ruined our schedule. Good thing, pursuit was very understanding and put us on stand-by. Viator, pls update your address link.

Not worth the money. Just go go hike up to the glacier yourself. It is free and a short hike. Do not get on the glacier without a permit though.

Although it was gloomy the day we visited the glacier, it was still a special experience. Our guide is lively and shared interesting stories. Wish we were given 10 minutes more to be out on the glacier as we felt a little rushed to take pictures and there were long lines to take pictures with the Canadian flag. Unfortunately we were not able to see anything on the Skywalk as it was foggy.

Wow- what a money making machine. 50$ for a lunch buffet that was prepackaged frozen foods. I had James as our driver- if you like super cheesy and annoying, he is your guy. Off the scale cheesy. You ride onto glacier where they rope you into a small area with hundreds of other people. James had the balls to lecture us on global warming on our trip back. Oh by his money churning company is soo concerned about it they are introducing electric vehicles next year. As if the vehicle was the only thing causing the melting of the glacier and not tens of thousands of people each year. The hypocrisy was over the top. Skywalk was another tourist trap-not worth the money. Stay away from this- big time cheesy tourist trap that will leave you with a lot less money.
