The Veado Verde / Green Deer invites you to live an experience in ancient Roman lands. Learn about Roman habits and traditions so deeply rooted in and around the ruins of Conimbriga. Let us show you their source of water and the beginning of the aqueduct in an ancient castellum, the ruins of the quasi-imperial Conimbriga with its House of the Fountains and enjoy its wonderful garden scenes, mythological passages, seasons, monsters, birds and sea animals. We will also have the opportunity to visit the PO.RO.S - Roman Portugal Museum in Sicó, the newest museum, integrated in the Roman legacy tour. As a multimedia and virtual space, it works in combination with Conímbriga.

The Conimbriga aqueduct starts at Alcabideque where the original collecting basin of the spring water is still used as the local village pond. Next to the pond are the impressive ruins of a castellum which acted as a cleaning basin. After 3,5 km the water entered to the town of Conimbriga partly carried by a substructure and ending in a castellum aquae of complex structure.

Alfredo is very knowledgeable, friendly, and has a great sense of humour. He picked us up very close to where we were staying and shared lots of information about the area along the way. We had a great time. Highly recommend!

Alfredo is the owner of the company. Very knowledgeable and fun. Only issue was that he would not pick us up at our hotel, although Viatour indicated that hotel pick up was included.

Excellent tour with an informative and helpful guide. Conimbriga is well worth seeing. My trip also included a stop at the nearby springs that are a primary water source for the aquaduct that supplied the Roman settlements. Highly recommended!

Tour was small and the guide (Alfredo) was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Our family of four comprised the whole tour so we were able to go at our own speed the whole time. Tour includes two small archeological museums in addition to the Conímbriga Roman ruins. Be aware that you have to pay separate museum admissions. We thought the trip was totally worth it.

Fantastic tour of the countryside around Coimbra! It was very peaceful. The ruins themselves are great: they’re very well preserved. Excellent use of a morning and our guide was wonderful.

If you are interested in Roman antiquity, this is the place to be. The city has never been built over and is only excavated to about 15%. It is an extensive complex and a museum with impressive finds can be visited. Half a day should be taken.
