What To Expect
Monastery of Alcobaca
You will visit the Monastery of Alcobaça, a 12th century Cister monastery, founded by the first Portuguese king, Afonso Henriques. Here you will also hear the true tragic love story of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro while you admire their tombs.
Batalha Monastery
This masterpiece of the Portuguese Gothic resulted from the fulfillment of a promise made by King João I in gratitude for the victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota against the kingdom of Castile (1385), which secured the throne and guaranteed the independence of Portugal.

5.00We made a stop in Tomar to see the Convent of Christ on our way from Porto to Lisbon and are so glad we did! It is a UNESCO world heritage site and former headquarters of the knights Templar. The building is stunning and in very good shape. Parts are under renovation but it is still worth the visit. Every bit as stunning as the monastery in Lisbon. Be sure to stop and visit

5.00We had a fantastic time going on the Tomar, Batalha, and Alcobaca monastery tour. Our tour guide, Sandra, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of each monastery and could explain all the small details of the architecture and artwork we saw that day. She was such a wonderful person, very engaging with us, and made our experience truly fun and memorable.

5.00We booked 3 separate tours, our guides were Sandra and Luis. Sandra for the Tomar, Batalha and Obidos tour and the Lisbon tour as well. Luis was our guide for Sintra. Both were really fun and extremely knowledgeable. We saw and learned so much more than we could have on our own. I HIGHLY recommend No Map Tours.

5.00Sandra is a very knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot about Portuguese history. The castles and monasteries are spectacular! The trip was very well organised, in a comfortable car, with all needed breaks. She picked us up at our hotel and returned us back.

5.00We had a great time on this trip. Our guide Sandra spoke excellent English, was knowledgeable, engaging and funny. She accommodated our request for a specific lunch stop while we’re in Tomar. All the stops were beautiful, and having a guide really helped us understand what we were seeing. We came for the art history. Sandra showed us many details in the tombs and architecture that we probably would have overlooked visiting on our own. I highly recommend.
