You will be welcomed into our home with open arms, where Patricia will guide you step by step through the preparation of traditional Romanian dishes, using fresh ingredients and authentic recipes.
This is not a formal cooking school, but a warm and personal experience where guests cook together, share stories, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a real Romanian home.
During the experience, you will prepare and enjoy a traditional Romanian menu that includes a local appetizer, bulz (a rustic dish made with polenta and cheese), and the famous Romanian dessert, papanasi, served together with traditional Romanian drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

I invite you to join me in discovering and cooking two traditional Romanian dishes in our home kitchen. The first dish we will prepare is bulz, a rustic and comforting recipe made with creamy polenta and traditional Romanian cheese. It is a simple but flavorful dish that reflects the heart of local cuisine. The second dish is one of Romania’s most beloved desserts: papanasi. Together, we will prepare the dough using sweet cheese, eggs, and flour, then fry it until golden and serve it with sour cream and fruit jam. Throughout the experience, we cook step by step, share stories about Romanian traditions, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a real home. After cooking, we will sit down together and enjoy the meal we prepared — just like friends gathering around the table.

We had a fun time doing this cooking class. We went just after Easter and the class started off with a traditional egg cracking. Both dishes we made were simple enough we will be doing them at home when we get back. The papanasi was so good and really easy to make.

I had a great experience with Patricia & Dan, a very friendly warm welcoming couple. Enjoyed both the hands-on cooking experience and the interesting talks we had (got the chance to practice my Romanian language skills, but they are both fluent English speakers). The food we prepared was very tasty. You also get the recipes so you will be able to prepare them at home. If you are in Bucharest this HIGHLY RECOMMENDED both for solo travellers and for couples. Make sure you come hungry.

There’s something truly special about being welcomed into a home that feels both cozy and alive — a place where warmth isn’t just in the air but in the people themselves. That’s exactly how it felt meeting Pati and Dan. Dan spoke with depth and passion about Romanian history, traditions, and politics — his insight giving each conversation a richness that mirrored the country itself. Pati, on the other hand, opened the door to the heart of Romanian cuisine. Her knowledge of traditional cooking, local flavors, and time-honored techniques was inspiring — the kind of wisdom only passed down through years of care and practice. They offered me a taste of Transylvania in liquid form — traditional local drinks that were potent, savory, and, by some standards, a little hardcore. I, of course, loved them. As a cook, I’ve always appreciated authenticity over perfection, and this was the real thing. If you’re someone who values presentation over flavor, this might not be your kind of experience. But if you’re a traveler, a cook, or simply someone who seeks out genuine taste and tradition, you’ve found your jackpot. Later, I went searching for Pălincă in the market — no luck. But I did manage to enjoy three mici, with bread, mustard, and a beer. When I told the owner about my hunt for Pălincă, he laughed and handed me a glass of cherries soaked in it. It was both hilarious and perfectly Transylvanian — strong, sweet, and unforgettable.

This was an highly enjoyable cooking class and a highlight of our trip in Bucharest. The hosts are kind, warm, and welcoming; their hospitality made the experience so special. They also were so knowledgeable and we appreciated all we learned about Bucharest, Romania at large, and its history and culture; we had great conversations. Our group was only two people, but I can see this class being great for kids and big groups alike—there’s no need for you to worry about being technical or experienced; you will still have a lot of fun! In addition to the two dishes we learned to cook (bulz and papanași), they also provided a hearty breakfast and a variety of drinks.
