I had a great time with Jatou and her family. This is a truly authentic experience of life of a Gambian family. Jatou and her sister were incredible hosts and the children are lovely. We cooked Benachin, a local Gambian dish. It was prepared and cooked in a traditional way. You can engage as much as you like. Jatou will explain all steps of the cooking process to you. There is no show and it’s not touristy at all, which makes it a very authentic activity. You basically spend some time with her family and cook a Gambian dish. I would recommend this experience also for solo female travelers, I felt very safe and comfortable.
