The Cotswold Villages Experience operated by Mad Max Tours out of Bath is a small group tour with stops in Castle Combe, Bibury, Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Tetbury and Malmsbury. Our driver/guide Kevin knows the area well and got us around a couple of different road closure detours without missing a beat. Kevin also provided excellent commentary on the tour, which was appreciated. There were 15 people on our tour, so embarking and disembarking the van was quick at each stop. Drive time between towns was seldom more than 30 minutes through very pretty countryside. My husband visited the Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton on the Water while I looked in a few shops and walked by the river. Our lunch stop was at Stow in the Wold and we bought sandwiches at The Cotswold Baguettes (highly recommended) and picnicked outdoors in a little park. We were very lucky to have a sunny day for our tour (June2) We prefer not to drive in the UK, so this tour helped us make the best use of our limited time in the area. The tour ended around 5:30 PM, so we stayed the night in Bath and enjoyed dinner at The Scallop Shell, a favorite of ours while in the area before heading to the train station in the morning.

We had a wonderful experience. Gerry, our guide and driver was fantastic. He was very informative and engaging. The tour took us to some truly lovely villages. Gerry highlighted the points of interest at each location and we had plenty of time to wander at each village.

As we would drive from village to village, we would listen to a recording of the history of the area. That was interesting. Our driver would suggest places to see once we arrived at the village and what time to meet back at the bus. Then we were on our own. I was fine with that but I was disappointed that we went to just the busy, city type portion of the village and not really the charming areas as I had hoped. I do understand that these are where people live and we should respect that but I was a bit let down.

Fantastic experience. Our tour guide was engaging and knowledgeable. He kept us on schedule but made sure we got the most out of each of our scheduled stops. The stops on the tour were fantastic. They showcased English history, scenic villages and quaint shops. Bourton on the Water and and Castle Combe Village were two of my favorites but it’s hard to pick a favorite since each stop was unique on its own merit.

It's a beautiful drive, just not enough info. Would have preferred lunch at Bourbon on the Water where you could sit outside and enjoy the place. Would have also preferred fewer stops and more time in places.
