Cu Chi Tunnels
Around 7:45am, get picked up from your hotel in center of Ho Chi Minh City and head to Cu Chi Tunnels. After 1.5 hours ride, we arrive at the tunnels where you will get a chance to learn about the fascinating history and significance of the tunnels during the Vietnam War. You will have the opportunity to crawl distances through the tunnels, and witness the intricate network of underground tunnels and traps that played a significant role in the war. You can also try your hand at shooting some of the old rifles used during the war. After exploring the tunnels, we'll head to a local restaurant for lunch to try some of the delicious local Vietnamese cuisine (vegan food available)
My Tho
After lunch, we'll head to My Tho - the heart of the Mekong Delta region. You'll get a glimpse into the daily life of the locals as we take a boat ride down the Mekong River, where you can enjoy the picturesque scenery of the surrounding countryside. We will then take a sampan ride through the small waterways with coconut palms lining both sides, where you can experience the rural lifestyle. Stop by at the bee house to watch locals perform traditional music while savoring fresh tropical fruits and honey tea. We'll wrap up our day tour and head back to Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon, where we'll drop you off at your hotel around 6:50pm. It was honestly really nice, the tour guide Mr. Phu helped and guide the group a lot. Not only did he crack a lot of jokes to make us feel comfortable but he communicated guided us throughout the whole experience. Making my family and I not only feel safe but have lots of fun :) The crowd was a lot but definitely manageable if you have a good tour guide like him! He explains things very clearly before hand and always makes sure the group is all present and safe.

We really enjoyed our trip to Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta. Tom, our guide, gave really interesting commentary to both locations as well as insights on the different parts of Vietnam.

The Cu Chi Tunnels are an absolute must-visit when you’re in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). This historical site, about 1.5–2 hours northwest of the city, offers one of the most immersive and eye-opening experiences in Vietnam. It’s not just a tourist spot—it’s a powerful reminder of ingenuity, resilience, and the harsh realities of the Vietnam War. From the moment you arrive, the site feels authentic and expansive. The network of tunnels—originally dug by hand starting in the 1940s and massively expanded during the war—stretches for hundreds of kilometers. Today, the preserved sections (mainly at Ben Dinh or Ben Duoc) let you walk through recreated above-ground displays and venture underground. Highlights include: • Seeing the incredibly clever camouflaged trap doors and deadly booby traps (spike pits, swinging doors, etc.) demonstrated by guides. • Exploring the underground living quarters, kitchens, meeting rooms, hospitals, and even workshops where the Viet Cong lived for years. • Watching a short documentary film that sets the historical context. • Crawling through a section of the actual tunnels (widened for tourists, but still narrow, dark, humid, and claustrophobic—choose shorter sections if you’re unsure; many people opt out and still learn a ton from the surface exhibits). The guides are usually excellent and ours (Thuam) was no different. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing the Vietnamese perspective on the war. They explain how the tunnels allowed fighters to move undetected, launch surprise attacks, and survive bombings right under enemy noses. It’s sobering to think about the conditions people endured: low ceilings, limited air, constant danger. For extra fun (and a bit of noise), there’s an optional shooting range where you can fire historical weapons like AK-47s or M16s—definitely adds to the wartime atmosphere, though it’s not for everyone due to the loud bangs. We went on a half-day morning tour, which felt perfectly paced: picked up early, back in Saigon by early afternoon, avoiding the hottest part of the day. The site can get crowded, but groups spread out quickly, and it never felt overwhelming. If you’re interested in history, military strategy, or just want something beyond the usual city sights, this place delivers. It’s educational, slightly adventurous, and deeply moving. Highly recommended—5/5 stars. Just wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes, bring water, and go with an open mind. You won’t forget it! 🇻🇳
