Antigonea , also transliterated as Antigonia and Antigoneia, was an ancient city in Chaonia, Epirus, and the chief inland city of the ancient Chaonians. It was founded in the 3rd century BC by Pyrrhus of Epirus, who named it after one of his wives, Antigone, daughter of Berenice I and step-daughter of Ptolemy I of Egypt.

The area of about 95 hectares within the territory of the Antigone Archaeological Park and the surrounding area is quite rich in environmental values, although the area has not yet been fully studied in all aspects of biodiversity in this environment. The Lunxhëria region, where the site is located, is known for its rich ethno-cultural traditions. The majority of the territory is covered by meadows with colorful flowers and rich polypod forests.
