What To Expect
In the morning we'll leave Muscat towards Wadi Bani Awf, the road leads us through the Wadi, we'll pass by impressive Wadi Canyons (Snake Canyon) and several small villages and the most beautiful village is Balad Sayt surrounded by mountains from all directions, its located in the east Al Hajar mountains.
Nakhal Fort
From there we continue our tour to Nakhal, where you can visit the beautiful Nakhal Fortress, it lies at the foothills of the mountains in a nice small town that grows extensive date palm plantations, this magnificent 1500-year-old fortress rises out of the mountain rock, towering high above the ancient village as if still warning would-be attackers of its ominous strength, It has witnessed many battles and is packed full of hidden escape routes and secret passages, you can stroll around the inside of this restored fortress and visit all the rooms which have been nicely decorated in the original old style, the view from the top of the fortress over the mountains and green date plantations is outstanding.

5.00Exciting mixture. Nakhal fort interesting and well presented. Hot springs for paddling not swimming but enjoyable. Wadi ban awef amazing so inspiring. The trip through the mountains were rather bumpy but awesome scenery. Felt very safe with our drivers who were delightful and spoke good English. Good light lunch at a newish hotel overlooking the old village. All in all a great day in Oman.

5.00Excellent day trip with our driver guide Ali, very competent and very helpful. The planned program was respected with the exception of Fort Nakhal, which is under construction. Ali let us walk in the beautiful village of Balad Sayt and its gardens, get out of the vehicle to take pictures. We ended the program with an excellent lunch where we discovered the typical dish of Oman: shuwa (lamb cooked over low heat very long). I strongly recommend this exit.
