Life’s a b*tch and then you die. Or not!

Madeline Ashton is the most beautiful actress (just ask her) ever to grace the stage and screen. Helen Sharp is the long-suffering author (just ask her) who lives in her shadow. They have always been the best of frenemies…until Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé away. As Helen plots revenge and Madeline clings to her rapidly fading star, their world is suddenly turned upside down by Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that’s to die for.

After one sip of Viola’s magical potion, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their youth and beauty restored…and a grudge to last eternity.

My wife wanted to see Death Becomes while we are visiting NYC and visiting my family. I purchased the tickets through Broadway Direct where you can see where your seats are and discounted also. We try the 2 for 1 but it was sold out, you can do the RUSH which is getting discounted tickets in the morning but I found the discounted tickets which were great seats, front row mezzanine, my wife was very happy and excited with the afternoon show (2pm).

This was a great musical to see it was definitely funny. The dancing and the costumes were Really Beautiful. I would definitely bring my kids to watch this. The older teenagers. Of course, there are some jokes that probably are not suitable for younger kids. But it was a lot of fun.

  • Amazing production made icky by rude theatre staff and oddly unprofessional ensemble members

Well. This was a weird Broadway experience. First off, the amazing: what a brilliant principal cast. We were so happy to see the entire original cast (minus Megan Hilty, which was disappointing as I had seen her as Glinda years ago, but Dee Roscioli was absolutely fabulous and I feel lucky to have seen her perform!). The production was big, bold, dazzling, and altogether a treat! Despite the story focusing on middle aged women, my teen daughter was all-in and loved every second. It was hysterical and the singing was of course next level. Big laughs the entire time. The “that was rude” moment that my kiddo recognized from Tik Tok was a treat for her to behold live and Jennifer Simard is just fantastic. Ok, now the weird: Kind of weird: This was our third show of this trip and the first time we’ve found the theatre staff to be rude. An usher misdirected us to the wrong section of the mezzanine and his colleague treated us like we were idiots for not being able to find our seats? Not exactly a great way to begin our night. Really weird: I can’t believe I’m writing this. The ensemble of the show. Brilliant dancers. Amazing vocals….in Act 1. Midway through Act 2 I saw two ensemble members start giggling during a dance number. Live theatre! Gotta love it! But then….it didn’t stop. The last quarter of the show was very hard to focus on because the ensemble was very weirdly pulling focus from the principals by doing things like playing with each other’s hands and smirking during a scene where they were supposed to be silently standing and mourning while the leads performed. It reminded me a lot of high school theatre. There are thousands of young performers who would give anything to be on that stage and it felt icky and disrespectful to see young performers disrespect the work, their colleagues and the audience that way. The show is a comedy but when the supporting actors are enacting their own inside jokes instead of focusing on telling us the story it loses something. The just plain sad: my teen discovered the stage door on this trip. She had the most wonderful, inspiring, lovely experiences interacting with gracious and appreciative performers after Joy the off-Broadway musical and The Great Gatsby. She and hundreds of other audience members raced to the stage door after this show. Mostly young people. She knew it was unlikely that any of the leads would come say hi. But what crushed her was that when members of the ensemble came out to the cheers and adoring gazes of these young fans, they were actively rude. She said they didn’t even smile or wave, they avoided eye contact and had a loud conversation in front of the fans and then walked away. It is absolutely not part of these people’s jobs to sign autographs or take photos. It was a Tuesday night and actors are people. But going out of their way to not only ignore the fans but to be blatantly rude and dismissive was another thing. My teen felt like they were “rubbing it in” by coming out the stage door and standing in front of the fans behaving as though they don’t exist. Why not just discreetly walk away? After seeing their behaviour on stage I’m not surprised. Perhaps it made them feel important to come out and give a bunch of kids false hope that they might get a smile or wave only to behave as though they are too important to take 1 second to say “thanks for coming” and then leave? Ick.

Fantastic and totally surprising it did not win more Tony’s. Especially for Best Musical. Absolutely loved this even though we saw one understudy. Couldn’t tell until the end of show she was very excited about nailing it. Acting, Singing, Costumes, Music so so Awesome!!!

This was at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater. Its really a beautiful theater, and we sat in the first row of the Mezzanine. The view was great. The show was campy, and absolutely hilarious. The costumes were gorgeous and we could not believe how many costume changes they did. The stunt doubles were great with the fall down the stairs and when the head flies off the body. The jokes were good, and the story was great as well. The lighting was very cool and the sets were spectacular. When we were there, we saw the understudy's for Madeline and Helen, and they were INCREDIBLE!!!! The singing and voice control were perfection! Michelle Williams is defintely aging in reverse, and her character Viola was equally great. I absolutely love this show and would see it again and again. I have never laughed so hard and so much at a show. I can't stop thinking about it!

I’d never seen the movie Death Becomes Her before, but my friends who had were dying to see this musical. IT IS PHENOMENAL! Do yourself a favour and buy tickets right away. If you have a chance to see Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, Christopher Sieber and Michelle Williams, TAKE IT. Death Becomes Her is more hilarious and endearing than I ever could’ve imagined. It’s laugh out loud funny. The music is incredible. The special effects are incredible. The costumes are incredible. The acting is incredible. The choreography is incredible. Everything about it is incredible. I’ve been listening to the broadway soundtrack ever since I saw the play. The songs are stuck in my head and I desperately wish to watch it again and again and again.

We always watch a Broadway show when in NYC so being able to go when there was a new show on was a bonus. In all honesty my daughter and I wanted to go because of Michelle Williams and being a Destiny's Child fan. Seats were great, centre and orchestra. My daughter had never seen the film but you don't need to have had. It was brilliant, very funny, relevant, slightly adult humour in places, the set and how they recreated the iconic scenes were brilliant, but the star of the show really was the main lead Megan Hilty! Wity, brilliant stage presence and a really great show. We didn't expect to enjoy it as much as we did, worth seeing again. The whole cast was great, they adapted Michelle's role to be more involved, mainly singing. Loved it and all the refreshments were in the show merchandise. Highly recommend

The comedy in the play was hysterical. The stunts were amazing and the actors and actresses were phenomenal. It was a freezing night out so the theatre was a bit cold and I kept my jacket on. But overall what a great time.

This was very funny! It wasn’t just me, the entire audience was laughing constantly. Afterwards I watched the old movie with Meryl Streep and honestly, the musical was a lot funnier. The music was also great! I enjoyed this enough that I would see it again. Note: I feel older people would find the humor a lot funnier than younger people – since a lot of the jokes were related to ‘old age’ problems.
