Arachova
Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece, originally called Karyai (also spelled Caryae). Its name is of South Slavic origin and denotes a place with walnut trees. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions, and its proximity to the town of Delphi. Arachova has a panoramic view, uphill small houses, and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. The town center includes a huge and steep cliff, the Bell Tower, covered with dense ivy. At the top of the tower is a large 10m height clock. Arachova is famous for its black wine, its "brusque", the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts, and woodcut creations as well.
Lunch: Enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and traditional foods.

Our one-day trip to Delphi was outstanding thanks to our guide, Alex. He was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely knowledgeable about Greek modern and ancient history and mythology. His explanations made the journey, the sight stops, and the site visit come alive, connecting myths, history, and culture with remarkable clarity. Alex managed the tour at a perfect pace, always attentive to comfort and questions. He also took us to beautiful viewpoints and a lovely local restaurant that we would have never found on our own. We left Delphi feeling inspired and enriched. Alex turned a simple excursion into a meaningful experience - highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alex arrived early and contacted our hotel so they could let us know where he was waiting as our hotel was in a pedestrian area. There was a concern with the car so he coordinated to have another driver meet us to switch cars. We stopped at a pastry store for coffee and a snack while we waited (~10 min). Paul was our driver for the rest of our trip. Both spoke good English and provided us with historical background on the areas as well as answering our questions about past and present culture. Paul dropped us off at Delphi to visit the museum and geological site. There was a concern with tire pressure but Paul was able to have it taken care of and meet us back at the museum when we were done. We ate a late lunch at a local Greek restaurant with a beautiful view of the mountains. It’s a 2.5 hr drive from Athens but well worth it if you are a history/mythology buff. The private tour allowed us to go at our pace and really enjoy our surroundings. Only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 was when we switched cars we had less leg room and comfort for the longer ride.

We booked two private tours with My Athens Transfers and they did a wonderful job to ensure our experience was truly memorable. Our driver for Delphi private tour was Notis and he was pleasant and friendly. He had deep knowledge about the history and we learned a great deal during our tour. He was very prompt and flexible. He was a great driver. The car was a SUV and the ride was extremely comfortable with ample leg room. We greatly enjoyed our experience and we highly recommend My Athens Transfer!!

Excellent day’s excursion with a really knowledgeable and personable guide/driver who kept us entertained and enlightened throughout a lengthy car journey. Delphi itself is amazing and the lunch stop was wonderful.

Guide was too quiet, mini bus for 10 was tighter space wise than a big tourist bus. Guide knew stuff but not the best at communicating.

We really enjoyed our private tour, it was interesting, comfortable minivan and didn’t have wait on other folks. Our driver Petros gave us a lot of info during the drive since he does cannot accompany you inside.

We had the most amazing day with our driver Notis. He was so knowledgeable and interesting with a real passion for history. The Delphi museum and archeological site were definitely worth seeing if you love ancient history. We loved Greece already but our drivers passion for Greece was intoxicating.

The tour was great overall. Delphi was very interesting and we opted to get lunch, and all of that was good. For the same day tour, you do spend a lot of time in the car. Be aware that if your tour returns in the late afternoon, there is a strong likelihood that you will get stuck in rush hour traffic.

To be clear, all you are getting is a private driver to Delphi. He takes you there, drops you off, picks you up to take you to a restaurant for lunch and then takes you back. That’s it. Having said that, our driver Stephanos was great. There was a taxi strike the day we went so he contacted us the day before to move up our pick up time an account for the increased traffic due to the strike. He made it clear that we could stop at any time if we needed bathroom or snack. Stopped a couple of spots for photos. Dropped us off at the entrance and was there when we were ready to exit. Took us to a really cute restaurant in Delphi and made recommendations for lunch. So to be clear, no complaints about Stephanos, but he just transports you there and back. Delphi up to the stadium was more of a hike than I expected and it was very hot. Some of the tours talk about lunch in Arachova. But if you get the option, I thought Delphi was nicer. But both are picturesque. Almost look like alpine villages.
