Unreliable and unprofessional ! I was wanting to celebrate my son’s birthday to this food tour and it never happened. No show! I didn’t get a email that it was canceled but the other participant got the cancellation. Then they rescheduled at a later time but no show again! They did reschedule another later time but we couldn’t hang around to find out it would be canceled again. Hopefully I’ll get a refund. So badly orchestrated.

It was a great way to see Detroit. Interesting facts and history about the city. It may have veered toward personal history of the guide but overall it was a great tour.

This was such a fun experience! Jim was a wonderful tour guide and shared so many great facts, stories, and experiences with us! The food was plentiful and had many diverse and delicious options. We are from the Detroit area and brought our friends from Boston on the tour. We all learned so much about the history of the city, enjoyed interacting with our insightful guide, and left completely full with to-go bags as well! Great tour!

The food stops were pretty good overall. The guide was 10 minutes but did let us know ahead of time so that was ok; however, not sure if this is the reason we didn’t get to go to our first stop (we were told there was no room so we never got to taste the egg roll or hear about the spot). The guide gave us chips to make up for it at the next stop. The guide was nice enough but he seemed unprepared at times and very uninterested in engaging with us. We walked from spot to spot in absolute silence most of the time. At the pizza spot, I asked for a recommendation about something which he didn’t know about which is fine but again almost no engagement otherwise and it was awkward. In fact, we were at the pizza place for maybe 30 minutes and he said absolutely nothing for almost the entire duration. He was on his phone otherwise. One of the guests asked if she could get another slice of pizza, as he offered nothing. He answered questions, but seemed uncomfortable or nervous or new. I’ve gone to food tours in several states and this was my least favorite.

Really enjoyed the food stops on this tour; especially the egg rolls and pizza. Nice walk around downtown Detroit. The guide was a little hard to hear. Wish he had more to share.

It's a good overview of the Downtown area and some history of Detroit. You'll see a few tourist attractions on your way to the food stops. The food was good and there's a good amount of it. Our guide was suffering from a back injury so the pace was a little slow, but I'm sure that's not always the case.

I left a five star review on Google, and this is my second time attempting to do it on Viator because my first one did not take. Overall, I had a good experience on the tour until the very end. Jim was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about Detroit, the food scene and the inner workings of the city. However, at the very end of the tour at the second to last stop, Jim began this whole speech about how gratuity is not included. I assumed that Viator would email us a link and I would be able to tip generously as I normally do with any service industry. I left my five star review on Google and did not think anything else about it until we got to the last stop. I was about to leave. and Jim asked me did I hear him earlier about the gratuity not being included, I told him yes, and that I would use the link to tip him. That’s when he informed me that the link isn’t working, and that it needs to be cash or Venmo. He confronted me in front of the rest of the guests and I felt extremely uncomfortable about it. I pulled out the cash I happen to have on me. He looked at it with disgust and gave me a half-hearted “thanks”. I don’t think I can recommend this tour to anyone. This left a bad taste in my mouth.

You won’t leave hungry! My tour guide Kaleb - it was just he and I on this particular day - enjoyed Detroit style pizza, coney hot dogs, and my favorite, pastrami egg rolls. And dessert! Kaleb was knowledgeable about the architecture and history of the city, and a great host.

Kaleb was very nice and showed us around downtown Detroit on our food tour. I would suggest beefing up his city/landmark knowledge with not just basics but also some interesting insider facts or info. Also, making sure to wait until the group was close enough that everyone can hear before giving information about a location. We had to wait quite a while for our food at several of the restaurants on the tour (20-30 minutes). I have been on many other food tours at various cities and they always have the table, place settings, and water ready when the group arrives....plus the food comes out quickly. Kaleb said the restaurants won't let the tour make arrangements ahead of time, so we are basically like any other customer. I'd say if they can't accommodate someone who brings them regular business, then find restaurants who can. For $95 per person, I would expect at least 5 out of the 6 stops to have sit down entree type food rather than just popcorn, drink, or bakery item.
