Certified guides will accompany you up the mountain and through the forest. You will fall in love with the stunning, breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean from the peak. The hike was amazing and Daryeau is such a fantastic guide. We really appreciated the way he supported us during the hike and that he showed us the natural beauties of Le Morne mountain. However, the experience has been jeopardized by the driver. His driving was very dangerous! And the worst part: although the description of this excursion literally writes “Spend the afternoon swimming, suntanning or participating in one of the many activities offered at the beach (…). At the end of the day, our driver will take drop you off at your hotel in time for dinner!”, our driver stated that he only had 8 hours trip planned, so he wanted to drive us back AT NOON. We had a very unpleasant argument and finally found a compromise. I kindly invite the organising company to settle this matter with the drivers they hire.

We hiked with my husband and my 3 children of 13 years, 7 years and 3 years and Daryeau accompanied us with brillo, he also knew how to be patient and go at our own pace and all this by sharing with us his experience of nature, plants and fruits as well as his history and that of the island. We also hiked the 7 waterfalls with Daryeau and was just as great so a big thank you to Daryeau that I recommend with my eyes closed. Do not hesitate to call him at +23054965720

My partner and I had a really amazing hike with Daryeau! (+23054965720) He told us all about Le Morne and what a special and important place it is, its history and its nature. He took us on a lovely scenic route so that we could see as much of the wildlife and surrounding countryside as possible. For much of the hike it is a straightforward uphill walk, but there is a difficult 60m scramble towards the top which is not for the faint hearted. Daryeau guided us through this part very helpfully and calmly and it felt like a real achievement. Afterwards we relaxed on Le Morne beach which is gorgeous. A perfect morning!

We rate 3 stars as an average. The guide was a 5 star, but the driver was zero or even below. From the moment we was picked up, the driver was driving very dangerously and after some crazy overtaking attempts, we had to ask him to calm down and drive so we had a chance to survive the holiday. This let to a bit of argumentation, which seemed completely out of context. We are used to the “interesting” traffic at Mauritius - but this was simply too hazardous! Furthermore the driver took no attention to his guests in the car, with super loud radio, ice cold air conditioning and his general behavior. Which is sad, because the hike was actually ok. The guide was explaining a lot about the fauna on the mountain and generally polite, helpful and professional. During the climb the guide was taking so good care of us and making the hike itself a very nice experience - even in the pouring rain we had that day. So - do the hike, but find a safer way of transporting yourself to the mountain.

The tour is listed on TripAdvisor as suitable for a maximum of 10 people (this should be adhered to!!). We were about 18 people. Why do we complain about that? There were 2 young guides who ran up with us in stages. There were enough people who needed a little more attention as e.g. the last stage was a little more difficult and dangerous and you had to climb. There were enough people who had never really done this before and also which ones were afraid of heights. They need more help. And the bigger the group, the less you can really help and support. When we got down about 10, it got warmer and the stones were already warmed up from the sun, so we had to hurry up a bit. But:(!!!) with “accelerate!!” you can’t get people off the mountain any faster if they are a) pedal-unsure, b) a bit anxious and c) broken!! The driver who drove us there was a bit shelly and we were also not informed that we are lying on the beach, round trip and hike have a total of 8 hours!! We arrived 2, 3 hours later from Le Morne beach (as I said, no time agreed, no info about the 8 hours, but even explicitly read on TripAdvisor that “the driver brings the people booking the tour back on time for dinner”) and the driver was upset as he insisted on the 8 hours and wanted extra money (which we didn’t give him!!). By the way, the hike took about 3.5 to 4 hours. The tour itself is highly recommended and the views are breathtakingly beautiful! Only fitness is required in any case, or hiking experience (at best also climbing experience). The beach of LeMorne is by far the most beautiful we have seen on the island!!
