Porta San Donato
The tour begins in Piazzale Verdi at the old Porta San Donato where the tourist information centre is located, adjacent to the historic Renaissance walls.
San Michele in Foro
From Piazzale Verdi, you will walk along Via San Paolino which corresponds to the ancient Roman street (Decumanus Maximus), passing by the Renaissance church dedicated to the Patron Saint of the town, San (Saint) Paolino. At the end of the street, behold Piazza San Michele, the area where the ancient Roman forum was located. Time to stop to photograph the spectacular facade of the 12th century church of the same name. Along the way, you will encounter Lucca's most famous celebrity, Giacomo Puccini, and see the exterior of the building where he was born. Still today, his operas fascinate audiences all around the world!

Our guide Vittoria was really good, engaging, nice and explained the history and main events of Lucca, as well as many anecdotes. It is the ideal tour to discover the city if you have only one half day available. I got the information and the kind of explanations I was looking for. Highly recommended!

The tour guide, Antonella, grew up in Lucca Centro, and was a veritable fountain of knowledge about the city. She was enthusiastic and friendly, and gave the tour in Italian and English simultaneously. The stops along the walking tour were all of them extremely interesting, especially because Antonella knew the history and recounted it with humor and from the perspective of an insider. Well worth the price.

We visited Lucca in the we of December 8 and I must say that I was excited about this small town. I was fascinated by the care of the old town, by its medieval walls that you can easily walk. It literally enchanted me with its circular squares and medieval alleys; and finally I was dazzled by the beauty of the lights decorating the center and the projections on the facades of the historic buildings.

A beautiful city I didn't think rich in history, little wedding favors. We made guided tour of 11, very prepared guide opened me un mondo.Molto polite lady of the tourist office who pointed us of everything more .Go absolutely to have tea at Palazzo Tucci (at ridiculous prices) open on weekends in the afternoon, so you can visit the interior and for a moment feel like a nobleman.

Interesting tour of Lucca, the prepared guide told us various anecdotes and historical notes related to the city. Too bad that at the beginning we were really too many and it was necessary to call another guide to separate the group

We find ourselves at the meeting point in 50 people with a guide who does not even have a microphone to be heard. Please note that we are too many for a tour. Despite the complaints we begin our journey. At the first stop our guide communicates the possibility to decide to participate in another tour at another time. Nobody accepts, however, since everyone had arranged for other programs. We keep going. Another stop and other communication. In 15 minutes a colleague will join us so that we can divide the 50 participants into 2 groups. In the meantime a gentleman passes by and, seeing the situation, offers to help by bringing half the group to conclude the visit to the city. In conclusion we were lucky to meet this person (prepared and kind) who allowed us to conclude the tour and introduce us to the beautiful city of Lucca. I believe that given the compulsory reservation and the advance payment the number of participants was known for this reason it was necessary to provide for the availability of an adequate number of guides to be able to better appreciate the visit.
