First of all, the experience begins with the boat transfer where the team will be happy to welcome you, at the reception pontoon of your hotel, or at the Vaitape quay. Once you arrive on the motu Taufarii, you will be given a fun introduction to the fascinating history of the Polynesian black pearl, and to pearl farming techniques. Then you will board the boat to discover, while snorkeling, near a coral garden, strings of oysters in their natural environment. The oysters are dived to a depth of 1 meter, and with the team, you will be able to browse the lines of oysters, and choose your own oyster to harvest! The luckiest among you may also have the opportunity to observe manta rays! Upon returning to the motu Taufarii, our team will proceed with you to open the oysters to reveal the precious black pearls! The experience ends with the tasting of local fruits and fresh drinks, in a sublime natural setting, with a breathtaking view of the lagoon and Mount Otemanu! Everyone will leave with the pearl collected, in a small sand bottle, or in a velvet pouch. And finally, everyone will be brought back to the meeting point.

Guides Tahi and Keanu have refined this tour. It was not only educational, but also an indescribable experience due to the positive nature of the two guides. Also the experience of having pearls dipped itself is of course great.

It was very informative and fun. Tahi explains the whole process from start to finish. The opening of the oysters is so exciting; you can’t wait to see what’s inside.

Learned a lot about how black pearls were made and had a blast picking out the oyster and seeing the pearl inside. We ended up with two beautiful black pearls.

This tour is exceptional. The setting, information, logistics and experience alone are excellent. But our guide, Tahi, is the best guide I've had on an international tour. He is the perfect combination of entertaining, informative, compassionate, and careful. He went out of his way to make sure everyone was accommodated without missing a beat in delivering flawless service to all guests. For example, we had a deaf couple as well as a Chinese-speaking family (almost no English for the parents, limited English for the teenage daughter and tween son who were translating for their parents). Tahi made sure they were all included and understanding while never making the rest of us feel that the tour was dragging or that we were being held back. Tahi was both educational and humorous throughout. We came away with a good understanding of how pearls are farmed, the history of the industry, and the details of the process. But at no point was anyone bored or checked out. It was full of fun and laughs the whole time. In the end, everyone came away with a beautiful pearl. Even those of us, like myself, who picked duds initially got a second (and in one case a third) oyster until we got one. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. It was a highlight of the trip for our family.

Fun and informational. Our guide Manu is fantastic. Absolutely worth the money. It is great to be able to dive and pick your own oyster, special experience.
