Scenic journeys to the sound. Staff are friendly and helpful. We had a very wet day but the waterfalls made up for it!

Well organized. We drove over from Te Anau (about 20 min early in the am), checked in, picked up the lunch we ordered from the cafe, and then onto the boat to cross Lake Manapouri, then a short stop with an exhibit about the nearby power station. Then on the bus over Wilmot pass, and meet the boat for the cruise thru Doubtful sound. Mostly sunny after a few days of rain so great views and lots of water flow. We saw seals on small islands at the entrance to Tasman Sea, and there were decent swells. Then a hail storm popped into which was fun. Reverse routing, they do a stop and cut the engines so you can take in the quiet. The bus trip back is longer as they make several photo stops so lots of people on/off the bus. A really great day

The scenery was stunning and the guides were informative and funny. We lucked out with a dry day but still got to see waterfalls. We also saw seals, an albatross who soared over our host several times and a pod of dolphins who entertained us by doing some jumps.

An excellent and interesting tour. The only downside was sharing it with 100+ people. We drove to Manapouri from Queenstown to meet the cruise. The drive was easy, with a toilet stop at Garston. Check-in was straight forward. We had booked a lunch box and collected these before the cruise from the cafe downstairs. The trip included a cruise across Lake Manapouri to the hydro power station at West Arm. The clouds were still low at 10:30am so the views were moody and dramatic. At West Arm there is a small museum about the hydro station and some toilets. We boarded buses and traversed across Wilmot Pass, with a photo stop at the peak, to Deep Cove in the Sound. There we boarded another boat to traverse the Sound. The clouds had lifted by them to a sunny day. We had ordered a cheese platter and this was served on this boat. The lunch box and cheese platter were reasonable value. There had been rain earlier in the week, so we experienced some cascades (waterfalls). There was a stop for the seals but no other wildlife seen on our trip that day. We reached a point in the Sound, where they turned the engines off and we could experience the serenity, the water and the bird sounds, hard on a boat with so many people. The wonderful thing about visiting the Doubtful Sound is that only Real NZ can cruise the Sound, so we were not surrounded by multiple boats. Just us. Then we reversed the trip arriving back at Manapouri around 5 pm. Thankfully, the sun did not set until around 8 pm so we could drive back to Queenstown in daylight.

Doubtful Sound was wonderful. The boat commentary was detailed and we had a great day. We didn’t bring any lunch with us and I would do that if going again. The bus driver was also very knowledgeable on the area, stopping for photo spots. All combined for an excellent day
