Ready to experience the Sami culture? In this tour, we take you to a Sami family so you can see how they live and try different Sami activities like lasso-throwing. That's the way Sami people catch their reindeer. When you have caught the reindeer you also get allowed to feed them! Enjoy a light refreshment in a heated cabin.

This activity also fits well for kids 6 and above.

This tour does not include reindeer sledding.

What To Expect

This excursion is suitable for both adults and children 6+. Our journey to Lavangsdalen takes approximately 30 minutes by bus each way. Once there, we will be greeted by a Sami family who will share fascinating insights into the history of the Sami people. You will even have the opportunity to feed reindeer and try your hand at throwing lasso on reindeer antlers (if there will be a time), just like the Sami do when herding reindeer. Enjoy a light refreshment in a heated cabin during the tour. This tour is perfect for families, and kids aged 6 and up can join in the fun! It is a great way for everyone to learn about Sami culture together! While you are there, do not miss out on the chance to buy a real handmade Sami product. Each item is unique and perfect as a gift or a special souvenir from your trip. You can relax with a light snack in a warm cabin during the tour, and with our small group size (max 32 people), you will enjoy a personal experience with our guides and a new friends.

A very nice outing, the reindeer are so cute and docile. This is an opportunity to learn more about the Sami culture and the two herdsmen are really nice and you feel that they love their passion and know how to communicate it. The time in the Sami cabin around the fire with hot drinks and snacking are really welcome.

I really loved that we were only a small group. From the mini bus driver to the Sami Mum and Son who welcomed us, it was a wonderful experience. The reindeers were adorable and cheeky and devoured the bread we could give them. Listening to the Sami culture while having a hot bouillon with home made bread was lovely. I also really enjoyed learning more about the reindeers. I would highly recommend this.

A lovely experience getting to feed and stroke the Reindeer! The Sami family were really friendly and made the experience fun and magical with stories of their lifestyle and culture and warming us with hot soup and home made bread.

The experience was wonderful. Sami and his family were great. It did not feel touristy at all, highly recommend as they’ve got very cute reindeers! Told us many stories about their culture, background as well as how they herd their reindeers. Would come back again if I was back in Tromso! Will never forget! Do this experience now, you won’t regret it!

A worthwhile experience. The Sami family who attended us and explained everything was very friendly and endearing. First we fed the reindeer and were with them for a long time and then they explored their culture and offered us hot drinks and some reindeer meat in pieces. Well organized and comfortable tour. Worth it for the environment, attention and reindeer of course

The reindeers were one of my favourite experiences in Tromso, it was such a special morning. We got lots of time to feed them and take photos, nothing felt rushed. Learning about the Sami culture was also fascinating. Would come back again in a heartbeat!
