Located only about a kilometer away from Hoi An Ancient Town's bustling center, the Hoi An Silk Village breathes new life into the 300 year-old history of the Maritime Silk Road. The Village is surrounded by verdant mulberry gardens, lotus ponds and horticulture farms. Paths wind through the gardens and ancient houses, built in typical Quang Nam architecture, providing a serene atmosphere that carries you to the days of old. The Village employs a dozen artisans that manufacture and weave silk into various garments and tapestries using ancient looms. Beyond discovering the ancient silk manufacturing process, visitors are also welcome to enjoy our restaurant and tailor showroom.

What To Expect

Once the “silk hub” of Quang Nam Province, the Hoi An silk industry employed thousands of Quang Nam residents and sent its products across the “silk sea road” to Europe and Asia. The Hoi An Silk Village was once home to dozens of artisan craftsmen that worked in the production, manufacturing and weaving of silk products using solely silkworms. However, the Village became unprofitable and closed almost 100 years ago because of competition and declining interest in artisan silk products. The Hoi An Silk Village seeks to revive this part of Hoi An’s history by working with the tourism industry and promoting the artisan process and silk products of the ancient village. ITINERARY Our tour guide will meet you at the hotel lobby to transfer to silk village. Enjoy Welcome Drink "Mulberry Juice" before starting the tour Visit the traditional house and discover the history of sericulture, silk unraveling and silk weaving Discover the Cham Culture, see the collection of Cham mulberry trees and the weaving process of Cham people from the 5th century to the mid 15th century See traditional Vietnamese mulberry garden. Learn how to get the best mulberry leaves, cut into small pieces and hand-feed the silkworms. Visit unraveling house: understanding how to get silk thread from the cocoon t weave silk fabric. Experience the job with Cham artisians and craftsmen. Cham textile house: discover the weaving process of Cham people on short and long wooden loom to have the unique handicraft products. The Champa artisian will guide customer how to weave the brocade, how to move the silk thread to have different beautiful patterns. Cuu Dien House: discover the pure handicraft silk in the beginning of 20th century which is preserved till now in Quang Nam province. Feeling the original silk threads from the cocoons and its different after process. Experience silk weaving process to understand how difficult to have pure products.
