We will show you more than the usual: iconic buildings & hidden courtyards. While strolling through the maze of little streets we will tell you stories spanning centuries from Rembrandt until today.
On our way to the local neighbourhood of Jordaan you will:
- learn more about the history of the canal belt & encounter magnificent buildings like the Royal Palace
- visit hidden courtyards that housed sailors` widows and elderly people on charity in 1650 – the first social housing projects in the world
- explore the distinct lay-out and see the difference that this neighbourhood shows compared to the canal belt
- find out why both locals & art community fought to preserve the special character of the area when investors and the city tried to remodel it in the 1970s
- browse for a reminder on an antique market

5.00Christian was a wonderful host and told us tons of interesting facts about Amsterdam and it’s history. He brought us to areas not mentioned in guidebooks and pointed out numerous things we would have missed on our own. Christian didn’t hesitate to answer all our questions, even when we strayed from the topic being discussed. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a knowledgeable guide and a different view of Amsterdam !

5.00Michael was extremely sympathetic and built up a great knowledge of Amsterdam. I liked the story he explained during the walk and their selection of amazing Amsterdam buildings. We went to an area I would never have discovered on my own. I can recommend this city walk to anyone who comes to Amsterdam and wants to discover a corner away from mass tourism.

Very individual Our very sympathetic guide Christian told us a lot of information about Amsterdam, which is not found in the guide. He also visited places not found in the guidebook. A highly recommended tour! We definitely book again!

5.00We just did this tour with Michael. He was an excellent guide. He showed us 2 little secret side streets that were lovely. Basically took us thru parts of the NINE STREETS and the JORDAN area. These areas are just awesome. Quiet, pretty, with lots of little shops and cafes. But before that he took us thru Dam square and nearby places and explained their history... my sister in law and I really really liked it. Michael knew so much about the history of Amsterdam and the surrounding areas. He also did not rush.Take their tour, you will be so glad you did.
