We had an amazing morning with Linda our guide! It was very rainy in Hokitika so unfortunately the road to the gorge was out of action. Linda was efficient in rearranging the day, taking us first to the treetop walk and then to the Ross goldfields instead. The treetop walk was gorgeous, the views were beautiful and as the clouds cleared we could see the snow capped mountains in the background. The gold panning experience at Ross was lots of fun and we got a lovely souvenir from it. Her passion for the area was infectious and her knowledge about local history, wildlife, plants, and fish and chip shops was extensive. We had such a great morning and feel like we gained a real insight into the west coast. Big thanks to Linda for making the day happen despite the weather!

Thank you to Explore West Coast Tour and especially to Linda for the wonderful tour today (and yesterday.). She’s fabulous and knowledgeable and fun! The van is comfortable and the half day tour is well planned and even better than the description. It did help to have perfect weather too. I will use this company anytime I can and in strongly recommend them.

A wonderful morning with our guide Linda who shared her extensive knowledge of multiple sites of interest between Greymouth and Hokitika Gorge that included identification of native plants, eg blue mushrooms; Southern Rata. As well as the deep green/blue water of the Hokitika Gorge, the tour highlighted several different historical events and perspectives that contribute to the unique West Coast character. A special inclusion was the Pounamu Pathway Mawhera Pa.

The Gorge is an easy walk and not too busy if you get there early. The treetop has a steep hill to start but gets easier.

Great outing! Mary was great! Weather was great although rain had been forecast. Definitely worth the time and money. Good conversation and leisurely pace.

The West Coast Travel team is abysmal at communication and honestly ruined the entire overall experience for me due to a lack of courtesy, professionalism and communication. After the initial booking confirmation email, I received no correspondence from them in the week leading up to my trip. And despite the many emails I sent off asking for confirmation that my pick up address was confirmed, I received no correspondence from them. It got to the day of, and despite my many emails and then several calls that morning, still no confirmation from their end. So I was required to travel myself from Hokitika to Greymouth to go and sort out the issue in person, and which after some scrambling from the person working there, eventually led to a delayed day tour. But honestly I would have much preferred a refund. Then I could have taken myself to both the Hokitika Gorge and the Treetop walkway, and had more than three quarters of my money left. The 195NZD I was charged was ultimately not worth it given the Treetop adult ticket id 36NZD and the Hokitika Gorge walk is free (and currently half closed for bridge maintenance, so half of it is entirely inaccessible so be aware). My guide was a lovely lady who tried her best to make up the experience despite the admin mistakes, but unfortunately I had just been entirely demoralised by the difficulties I had trying to communicate with the West Coast Travel office that I couldn’t fully appreciate the tour. Definitely take the drive out yourself. A hire care for the day would likely end up being cheaper overall.

Many interesting viewpoints along the way. The gorge walk was though, but worth It. The treetop walkway gives the impression of being in another world... I would've preferred the two to be separate exploration activities though...a bit tough on those who don't have the time or the inclinación to tackle both in one go.
