This is not a bus tour or a quick photo stop. It’s a real hike to Iceland’s most active eruption zone: Fagradalsfjall, where new lava flowed as recently as July 2025.
This experience takes you into one of Iceland’s newest volcanic regions, led by local guides who have followed the eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula since the first lava appeared in 2021.
Hike across wide lava fields, observe steaming ground and crater formations, and learn how repeated eruptions have transformed this part of southwest Iceland. The tour also includes visits beyond the volcano itself, giving you a deeper understanding of the area and its recent history.
Along the way, we stop in the evacuated fishing town of Grindavík and explore the surrounding sites.
✔️ Local guides with first-hand knowledge of the eruption area
✔️ Stops that show the wider volcanic landscape of Reykjanes
✔️ Small-group for the best possible experience
✔️ Relaxed pace so you can explore, ask questions, and enjoy the surroundings

By booking this tour, you confirm that you have read and understood the full tour description. While the volcano area is publicly accessible, joining a guided tour is a personal choice made for added safety, local knowledge, and deeper context. In the case of an active eruption, the itinerary may be adjusted to prioritize access to the current eruption site and main viewing areas. Although we may follow the same trail used by others, this remains a fully guided experience.

Our guide, Oddi is a great guide! He is kind, very knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed his tour, especially hearing all the stories and information about Iceland along the way. It was my first time ever touching lava, and it was such an amazing experience. The view after the hike was also unlike anything I had ever seen before — absolutely unforgettable!

I highly recommend booking this hike. Although you can hike independently, you'll miss out on the volcano's history. Oddi, our guide was an expert who kept us safe and brought proper gear in case of an active volcano. The hike was very easy. I definitely recommend having a guide! Feel Comfortable being able to walk on lava.

The volcano hike was challenging with some very steep parts, but it was so much fun and totally worth it! Huge thanks to Haffi for being such an amazing guide — super friendly, entertaining, and always making sure everyone was okay. He also took so many great photos for us along the way. The whole experience felt fun and memorable because of him. Highly recommend this tour if you want both adventure and good vibes!
