READ CAREFULLY: Because of the Papal events in the Vatican some areas might get closed last minute without previous notice. This has already happened this year and can happen again during your Vatican tour: the Sistine chapel and/or the Basilica of Saint Peter might not be accessible. In case of such events our tour guide will provide you with a valuable alternative focusing the tour inside the Vatican museums.
Vatican Museums
You meet with your guide near Vatican City and after bypassing the queues you can store your luggage in the Vatican cloakroom and begin this marvelous interactive journey of discovery. As you visit the various collections your guide will involve the whole family in fun activities. There are quizzes to solve, trivia questions to answer, scavenger hunts and much more to keep everyone occupied. There are numerous delights to see: Greek and Roman sculptures; the sarcophagi of Empress Helena and Constantine, the mother and daughter of Constantine the Great; the Gallery of the Candelabra; Gallery of Tapestries; Sobieski Hall and the wonderful Raphael’s Rooms.
Sistine Chapel
After the museums you enter the Sistine Chapel, the famous venue for papal elections and one of Italy’s most visited sites. The frescoes depict Bible stories, including the creation of Adam and of course there is Michelangelo’s renowned “The Last Judgment”

Our guide, Claudia, was amazing. She was engaging with the kids and knew all the good places to stop to get shade and attempt to avoid the large tours.

We enjoyed touring the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica with Tommaso. We arrived a few minutes early and he was already at the entrance waiting with an iPad with our name clearly visible. At 8:50am, we passed an already 2.5 hour wait just to get through security. He had front of the line access and everything was a breeze to get on our way and into Vatican Museum. Tommaso's connection with our children, 9 years and 5 years old, started right away. Our daughter learned basics of ancient Rome this school year, and Tommaso was was excited to bounce information off of her baseline knowledge. An archaeologist by trade, Tommaso had the children do their own little "dig" by searching for objects (specific statues, certain identifiers in tapestries and paintings) in each area of the Vatican Museum and St Peter's Basilica. My husband and I were equally intrigued and gained insight we would have missed without Tommaso's guide. Highly Recommend.

Our family (2 adults and 2 kids (boy 10, girl 7)) had a fabulous time touring with Tommaso! He is a local expert who took us to beautiful parts of the Vatican museum that were not crowed giving the kids up close views, time and space to ask questions and learn fun insider stories. We also saw the main sights and loved finding the hidden things in the Sistine chapel painting. Tommaso kept the kids and adults equally engaged with all of his knowledge while also having fun.
