This Rio Grande rafting trip traverses the calm oxbows of the Orilla Verde National Recreation Area. The open canyon allows scenic views of towering basalt cliffs, high desert ecosystems, a lush riverside habitat, Class II rapids, and swimming. Several Class II rapids occur throughout the outing, in between calm stretches perfect for swimming. We float through the village of Pilar, New Mexico where we will observe a quiet zone to minimize the impact of our passage through this historic, small New Mexico community.

Our family had a fabulous time floating the Rio Grande with Lucas. He was knowledgeable, funny, kind, and a very able oarsman and he made everyone feel both comfortable and happy. He really had to work during our day on the river as the winds blowing against the current were often stronger than the current itself. But he was of constant good cheer and his strength propel us forward even when the winds blew strong. Far Flung Adventures has a treasure in him and we had an unforgettable day!

We had a wonderful float down the Rio Grande with Lucas. He was so gracious, charming, knowledgeable, and friendly. Guides like Lucas are really special. They make what is a lovely outdoor experience into a memorably warm and fun family occasion that bond people together because everyone feels good about what and how they are doing. He’s a real keeper!

Just absolutely wonderful!!! Ryan and Lucas made it a very safe adventure and especially FUN!!! We were supposed to do the float but Ryan asked if we wanted to do the racecourse and it was GREAT!! Beautiful scenery and just the right amount of adventure!! Everyone should do this and we want to thank Ryan and Lucas for a fun, fantastic day!!!!

Amazing tour and well worth the price!! My wife, mother-in-law and I went on the full day paddle tour out to the Hot Springs in the Rio Grande section of the park and had a fantastic time. Bobski, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and taught all about the incredible geology, flora and fauna in the park. Great lunch was provided, and even a nice hike. I would recommend the trip to anyone interested in seeing Big Bend, which should be everyone!

We had the best time today with Brian! The weather was beautiful. We had a party of 7: 3 adults, 3 teens, and 1 child. We had a raft, a paddle board, and a kayak. Our party rotated through the paddle board and kayak but the raft was awesome for people to rest and enjoy the beautiful views. We saw ducks and river otters, it was peaceful and the rapids were slightly technical but totally manageable even for our primary paddle boarder (a moderately experienced 14-year-old). Brian is an EXCELLENT teacher and guide. He was so chill, friendly, and knowledgeable, he helped make executive decisions that were the best for our group, he’s a great conversationalist, well-read and interesting, and great with young people. Such a good vibe! Thanks so much!

We had a relaxing float trip along the Rio Grande river. There were a few class 2 rapids - nothing much, but easy for one of us who was a little concerned about rapids! It was late in the season and we were the only ones on the raft. Our guide was interesting and the changing colors and wildlife we saw were beautiful. This was a nice way to spend a morning and we were out on the river for close to two hours. Next time, we may want to step up to a more adventurous rafting experience!

Really enjoyed the leisurely float. Garrett was very knowledgeable about the area and local history. We saw sheep and locals fishing for trout.
