This turned into a great day, for the most part with a couple of little glitches. Pickup at our accommodation was confirmed and we were out front the required five minutes early, and then waited for half an hour for the bus to show up. But then we were off. It’s a long day of travel in a coach, about 11+ hours, but you travel 400 km. The tour guide / driver was very good. Unfortunately, I am hearing impaired, and that combined with her strong NZ accent and the road noise of the bus meant I missed almost everything she said. My wife was able to catch most of what was said, and pass it along to me, but even she was struggling to understand. Stopped for morning tea at a very interesting business that creates wonderful pieces from swamp kauri in their onsite shop. Here we changed to a four wheel drive bus, and riding it along the 90 Mile Beach was such fun! The stop at the Cape Reinga was quite spectacular, but be prepared for the walk back up, up from the lighthouse to the parking area. Lots of amazing scenery the entire length of the trip. The glitches: 1) late arrival of the bus. 2) lunch was included but was quite disappointing. We didn’t feel like chicken wraps so we ordered the non-chicken, which were mostly cold quinoa wrapped in a tortilla. And who includes cold quiche in a packed lunch. The brownie was okay and the apple was good. All in all, a good day, well worth the time it took.

We had the most fantastic day. Lots to see, lots to do and we had the most superb guide, Willy. This is a definite must if you are visiting North Island. I can not rate this trip highly enough. It is a long time on the coach granted, but the various destinations that you stop off at are just breathtaking and if you get Willy as your guide the time just flies by. Singing, jokes and everything in-between.

A full 12 hour day tour that takes you effortlessly up to the end of the North island. Driving through varied landscapes of forests, rolling hills, cattle farms culminating in spectacular views at Cape Reinga looking out to the Pacific & Tasman seas. In total It’s about 400km of driving in two comfortable coaches with restroom stops. Our driver, George, provided us with plenty of information in his commentary in addition to humorous antidotes. A fresh picnic of a chicken wrap, omelette, brownie, apple & water was included on the beach. Due to the unsafe sand dunes sandboarding is no longer an option on the beach. The coach drives along a short stretch of the ninety mile beach as not allowed to drive its length any more.

The tour was just what we expected, but the weather was something else! The driver / tour Gide, Tanya, was excellent, informative, funny and very personable. She did her absolute best but the weather was against us, couldn’t see more than a few feet at cape Rianga, an experience in its self. Nice stop at the kauri wood workshop, everyone we met were brilliant, just a same the views weren’t there!

Had a great day, doing the bus trip, up to Cape Reinga, via 90 Mile Beach. We swapped coaches at KaUri, where we stopped in Awanui for a lovely morning tea, toilet stop and to look at a section of Kauri tree. George, our driver and tour guide was excellent. Great humor and information about the area. I do wonder if some of his humor/sarcasm may not translate well to all cultures, but was great for us Kiwi's. Drove out onto 90 Mile Beach, along the edge of the surf, up to the sand dunes, for those who wanted to , to do some sandboarding. Also had time to paddle in the Tasman Sea and if you wished, walk off up the beach and be picked up , as the coach headed up the beach. Off the beach and up towards the Cape. Lunch at a pretty beach, just before the Cape. Wrap was nice, brownie and an apple. Small piece of soggy quiche that wasn't really necessary. Bottled water provided too. Up to Cape Reinga, walk down to and back up from lighthouse. Beautiful scenery ,stunning seeing the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean meeting. We were a bit held up as one passenger got overheated walking back up from the lighthouse, but passengers helped out and all was well. Drive back is long, by this time its after 3pm and you have done everything. But that's part of it, you only have that option, so its just a matter of resting, taking advantage of the toilet stops and being glad not to have to do all that driving yourself. Well worth the $, definitely recommend. Sadly many of my Kiwi friends have never done this trip, or been to Cape Reinga.

An absolutely awesome trip up to Cape Reinga via 90 Mile Beach; this trip is a must-do if you are visiting the Far North of New Zealand! Don’t let the length of the tour (11 hours) put you off; you will see everything there is to see in one day, with entertaining and informative commentary throughout. We stopped regularly, so we were never more than one hour sitting in the bus, which was very comfortable and air conditioned. Our first stop was at Māori art gallery Kā Uri, where we had morning tea and an opportunity to walk through a huge carved kauri tree log, plus view the art works and make some purchases. Then we went on to 90 Mile Beach where we could paddle in the ocean and go sand boarding. The jewel in the crown of this trip was visiting Cape Reinga and the lighthouse, seeing where the Pacific Ocean & the Tasman sea meet and where Māori spirits of the dead leap off a tree and across the ocean on their journey back to their ancestral homeland. We also had a picnic lunch provided, eaten at a nearby beach. I would highly recommend this trip as a must-do experience if you are visiting the Far North. It is well worth the money; the bus driver alone was worth doing it as he was so entertaining! Don’t miss this opportunity to see a beautiful part of New Zealand!!

Tanya our driver was friendly and accommodating despite the fact she had challenges with the coach she was given to drive and the transfer building being locked. She did a great job. We had a beautiful drive and she commentated well with stories and facts. Great fun being able to drive on the beach and a yummy lunch provided. Overall well worth the adventure.

Tania was a great driver and guide. The lunch offered was adequate however, the base if the quiche was raw. It was disappointing that one of the venues was unavailable, this was nit advised until after the booking was processed and paid for and no compensation was offered. I booked in New Zealand for an excursion bin New Zealand but was charged in USD, somewhat misleading. Overall it was a lovely trip but the organization offering this trip could do better.

An incredibly informative and enjoyable day from start to finish. Barry was a fantastic tour guide, sharing his knowledge, expertise, and great sense of humour throughout our visit to Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach. A truly memorable experience and highly recommended.
