The Town of Hum
During our tour we will visit 3 famous Istrian villages where we will taste local liquors, wines, cheeses, truffle products, and marmalades. Hum, the smallest town in the world, is located in the heart of Istria that claims only 20 inhabitants. Your visit to Hum will be like a beautiful fairy tale of small Istrian towns. This hidden, picturesque region of Istria is extremely friendly to all visitors who come to marvel in the sights the town has to offer. According to local legend, Hum was built with the stones left over when giants were building towns in the Mirna River valley, an area in central Istria that includes wonderful mountain towns such as Motovun, Roč, and Bale. Apart from being famous for being the smallest town in the world, Hum recently became popular for biska, a spiced brandy made with mistletoe according to an old Hum recipe.

Knowledgeable and extremely accommodating tour guides and hosts gave us a wide variety of sites and flavors from a view of the Alps over Lake Bled to a visit to the capital city for a wine tasting and fun day at the city center market which was great for shopping and fantastic local foods. The tour was slightly modified due to a change in guide availability and they went out of their way to make it more than we’d originally expected. The traditional crème pastry cake at lake Bled was delicious.

We booked this tour as a shore excursion from Koper. It was perfect for us as we were traveling with my 70 year old in laws. We were picked up by Bojan from the port and he made the tour as easy as possible for us since they could not do excessive walks. Tasting of wine and truffles was a nice experience. Bojan even stopped us for some shopping going the extra mile. Highly recommended.

This was an amazing day Deyan met us promptly at our ship's port and immediately engaged us in a most personable way. He was engaging, interesting and thoroughly knowledgable about his country! He loves what he does and his enthusiasm for his land is contagious. We traveled to three different villages and the places he picked to show us were wonderful. The distillery i Buzet was charming and classy at the same time. The presentation was perfect! We loved everything we tried there and the prosciutto, cheese and bread were delicious. We bought wonderful liquors there! Montovun, our second stop was a story book town atop a mountain with incredible views. it's a little steep to walk : our final stop at a winery was also wonderful. The wines were delicious and the music in the background was great! The two cellists!. The young woman who presented the wines was sweet and easy to talk to. All in all it was a day not to be forgotten ever. Deyan made it the best day ever and we felt rested afterwards due to the complete feeling of escaping our everyday life in this most beautiful country. I would recommend this tour to everyone- couples, families with adult children, friends... you will not be sorry!
