We had a wonderful experience with Bobby! He was so kind and full of knowledge, we had a lot of questions 😀 This trip was definitely the highlight of our vacation. I booked this trip more for my husband, but I surprised myself with loving every minute of it! We were thrilled with our catch but also enjoyed the the wildlife and conversations with Bobby. We are already talking about returning next summer and there is no other guide we want to use.

We had an excellent guides, we fished for 3 days. Thank You Chis, Carson, and Bobbie. Chris taught my wife how to use a spinning reel, she was used to a cane pole. Cristy the office manager was fantastic, she helped us many times which made our fishing trips a pleasure. We caught lots of fish

This was a bucket list item of mine and didn't disappoint!! Had a full day on the Kasilof river, June 13 2025. First of all, I was a solo and many companies won't even book a solo. They welcomed me with open arms. As a solo, be prepared though - in order to get the full day, another solo has to join the boat (I got lucky and 1 did). My guide Chris was awesome. Personable, friendly, engaging, hilarious, super helpful and knows his stuff. Sorry I tangled the gear lol. He made the trip so much more enjoyable!! The sockeye fishing was incredible. My goal of the trip was to catch 1 salmon. I didn't care if it was 5 inches long, I only wanted 1. Well, I pulled my limit (great sized ones too)! As a longtime largemouth fisherman, I was not prepared for how big they hit and fight. It was a blast!!! To me, everything after that 1st salmon was a cherry on top. And that was an important attitude to have because the King Salmon fishing was not good. Let me be very clear - that was in no way the fault of Chris or King of the River. Chris did everything he could to get us on one, but they simply were not there. Dozens of boats in the river and we only saw 3 the whole day. Be prepared for that (Chris did a great job of prepping us) - the river is just running out of them. That couldve been incredibly disappointing, but with the boat full of sockeye, the breathtaking scenery of the river, the wonderful group I was with, and Chris running the show - not catching a King was a-ok. Looking back, I could've just spent the whole day on sockeyes and called it a day. Two quick notes for everyone 1) bring an extra pair of socks with you too. My boatmate took a spill in the river when a sockeye hit his hook like a truck and having an extra pair of socks really helped for his comfort the rest of the day. Side note - from his back, waders full of water, he managed to keep the fish and bring it in. That was epic. 2) De-boating, clean up, fileting, and shuttling back to the start takes a lot of time (roughly 2 hours). Make sure you're prepared for that. I wasn't and it caused some anxiety for an activity my family had planned that evening. We got out of the water at 2 but I didn't leave the ramp until after 4. Don't worry though - the amount of wildlife present will keep you entertained (seriously must've been 100 bald eagles just hanging out with us). These guys do it right and I HIGHLY recommend (especially if you request Chris!!!) I can't thank the King of the river crew enough!!!! Have a great trip!!!! - Kevin Birckbichler

  • 10/10 Full Day guided tour with Jason on the Kasilof River

An absolutely amazing trip. The instructions from Jason were very clear to meet him in the morning. Jason recommended the perfect time to head out to meet the run of salmon with the incoming tide. The views around the river were astounding with many bald eagles coming to watch us fish throughout the day. We easily limited out on sockeyes and even got the opportunity to land a king from shore (due to Alaskan restrictions that day we couldn't fish for kings from the boat). Jason was extremely good at reading the river and getting us to the best spots. If we get the opportunity to visit again we will absolutely book with King of the River.

Mid August trip on the Kenai, with Quinton ! Just amazing. All in boat limited out in about 4 hours ! I think between the 3 of us we lost about 25. Weather was good, river was good, sockeye were running. Quinton was moving up and down that river to help us all land fish ! Just an amazing day. No doubt the name says it all King of the River ! I will be back !

Find another guide service for catching King Salmon on the Kasilof. We booked three years in a row with King of the River. Each year, they told us we could not fish for kings. One year, Alaska closed the season early. This year was supposed to be the guide's discretion. It ended up being a trip for coho salmon. No kings targeted. Our guide, Aaron, did get us on the coho. We limited in about two hours. However, I paid for kings at a premium rate. My wife fell ill on the day of the charter, but they would not issue a credit or refund. We ended up paying $475 for one person to fish reds on the Kasilof. Typically, such a trip costs about $150-175 for a guide on the Kenai. I realize no one can accurately predict the king run, but some things are within a company's control. Especially for good customer experience, KOTR can adjust their fees, as appropriate. In this case, the outfitter should have told us upfront our dates were unlikely to work out for targeting kings and/or recommended a coho-only charter. That way, the customer can enjoy the coho charter without feeling taken advantage of. I expected better from this outfitter. They did not deliver on their claims. More integrity needed.

We booked a full day fish on the Kenai. The staff at King of the River, particular Christy were extremely helpful. She called the day prior to explain the Kenai was slow and suggested we move to Kasilof and it was the right move. Our guide Jason was awesome, we got into fish and spent all day catching and having a blast. They made the process of cleaning and shipping the fish home completely handsfree and easy. Overall a great staff and fantastic time all around. I HIGHLY recommend fishing with King of the River!

Just a great day on the river. I was a last minute booking and KOTR got me on a trip on the Kenai, with 12 hours notice. Dean was a great guide for us. We were on the fish after about 30 minutes on the river. All 4 in the boat caught Coho. When the fishing dried up, we moved to another spot and again in about 30 minutes we all hooked up again ! Just a great day and a great way to end my holiday in Kenai. Thanks Dean and the crew. When I am back, I will definitely book. Keith

Myself & 2 friends (all many decades long AK residents) fished the 1/2 day Silver Salmon trip on the Kasilof. It was a fantastic trip. And during this wettest summer in many many years, even the weather cooperated with a dry warm day. Our guide Aaron was superb & we will return next Silver season & absolutely request him as our guide. This young man was so knowledgeable about every fish species, the river itself & techniques. He had a great sense of humor, engaging, patient & so enthusiastic. He definitely loved what he did. Every staff we dealt with did a great job . We were kept informed of every detail .and of course now we are enjoying the fruits of our labor! Catch you next season . Diane & Friends

Dean and his deckhand Wade were awesome! Me, my dad, and father-in-law had a full day on the Kenai with Dean fishing reds. We didn't quite limit out but we had our opportunities. Dean put us on fish immediately and Wade supported anything we needed. The King of the River crew was on time and meant business starting at 4:00am. As guys who love to fish, we like that in a guiding service. Dean and Wade fought for some shoulder room for us and maintained it throughout the day. We had a great time and I wouldn't want to be on that river with anyone else. I'm excited to come back in June and book a king salmon trip with these guys! Cheers and tight lines!
