Dougga is the pinnacle of the Roman presence in Tunisia and looks out majestically over the hills. It occupies an unusual position for a Roman town because its origins date back well before the Romans, in fact, it was a Numidian stronghold and enjoyed great prosperity through Masinissa, its ruler.
Bulla Regia is a remarkable Roman city, in northwestern Tunisia, near the modern city of Jendouba. It is celebrated for its semi-subterranean housing, a feature that most likely was a response to the need for protection against excessive heat in summer and the cold in winter. The experience of exploring complete, superbly preserved villas is quite incredible; Bulla Regia remains a unique Roman city in having two-storey dwellings with one floor underground.

2.00Paid for a private tour, but the guide at Dougga added extra people outside our group to the tour and the guide tried to add two entire families we didn't know to the Bulla Regis tour. We paid for private - you expect a private tour! For the money paid the lunch was ok but basic and no water or drinks provided. A lot of driving which we weren't warned about and the guide was late at Bulla Regis too The ruins themselves are spectacular but we paid way over the odds for a private tour that wasn't private... Use a different company for your tour!
Day trip to famous Roman ruins

5.00Only had a driver for this tour, the guides appearing at Dougga and Bulla Regia, who were based at each site, so paid by the tour company. The driver had to ask directions from the public several times and didn't speak a lot of English, so a bit odd for a tour company not to know how to get to these famous sites, but we did get there and they were worth the visit. Something every tourist should go and see due to the fascinating history at each site. Testour was a bit of a let down as the driver couldn't advise us of what to see, but we managed to find the mosque with the backwards clock, although we had no context. Note to tour company - at least have some handout to show the tourists if the driver can't tell us...

1.00We booked this and another tour months in advance but this tour operator seems to keep no record of their bookings so during the night they realized that they have to pick us up next morning and they cancelled the tour. If we weren’t awake, we would have woken up to a cancelled tour and no possibility to book anything else. This tour was scheduled for the next day so we asked for a confirmation via Viator – no reply. Only after contacting them via Whatsapp and insisting on the confirmation via Viator, they confirmed and this is when they started looking for a driver as they didn’t prepare this tour either, just like the one that they cancelled a day before. This poor guy spoke zero English, got a terrible car WITHOUT A/C (which was promised in the reservation details) and he had zero clue about the region he was supposed to take us to - it is absolutely not his fault as he got contacted a few hours before the pickup time so he had no chance to prepare himself. He was a retired old man, we were grateful that he accepted driving us as otherwise we would have received another cancellation. As a result we wasted time driving around as he had no navigation and has never been there before. At some point my partner got tired of it and guided him around using Google Maps. Avoid this agency, they are unprofessional and do not deliver what they promise. Worst case they will simply cancel your reservation last minute, ruining your holidays.

5.00Kamel was a fantastic guide! The four of us enjoyed his extensive knowledge and hus authentic professional approach very much. We learned so much about the history of the area and ruins and are so grateful for this opportunity to explore this area with a local gude. Thanks Kamel! Our only struggles with the trip was in communicating with operator. We had tried to contact them numerous times to confirm our pickup up and they never messaged us back. This left us feeling unsupported and unsure of what was happening, but luckily, our experience and guide made up for that! Thanks Kamel!

5.00The team communicated very well. Since I was there during Ramadan, many factors were involved that I was not aware of. Through good communications, we were able to get an early start, and the entire day went very smoothly and perfect. Lunch was enjoyable and I would recommend this tour.

5.00Excellent guide Anis and driver Arbie (who even lent my friend his coat given how cold it was with the wind in Dugga). Received a lot of great information at both Bulla Regia and Dougga, which are both amazing in their own way. Bella Rugía allowed you to see two story houses and had a very large baths. Dougga was very extensive and had many interesting places. Lunch at local restaurant was very tasty. Highly recommend the tour if you like Roman historical sites.

5.00We left Tunis at 7:00AM and headed to Testour. The mosque has a very interesting clock. The vendors specialize in goat cheese, and pomegranates. Them on to Dougga, this I can only describe as spectacular, I won’t spoil it for you if you are going. After we went to Bulla Regia, we had lunch there which was fine. The site is also very interesting and well worth a visit. Our driver and guide were excellent.

5.00Larbi and Viator ensured that I had an outstanding trip that I won’t forget. Firstly, my booking was fulfilled at very short (< 12 hours) notice, without any trouble. Larbi arrived on time, drove tirelessly and safely, and was an excellent companion. I learned all about Tunisian culture, wildlife and geography on our drive between sites, and Larbi went above and beyond to pause to allow me to take photos. I give him my highest recommendation.
