Balcoes de Ribeiro Frio
Ribeiro Frio, set in Madeira's lush green heart, is a tranquil mountain area surronded by dense Laurissilva forrest. The Levada dos Balcões leads along a short peaceful walking to the Balcões viewpoint, which opes onto a stunning panorama view of the valley rich forest and mountain peaks.

5.00We chose the full-day East Safari tour, and it exceeded our expectations. Our guide, John, arrived promptly at 9 AM with two other passengers. There was another couple in the jeep and then 3 of in a spacious Nissan jeep, giving us ample room. We opted for the back seats for a great view, and the sliding roof was a fantastic feature when the weather permitted. From the start, John made us feel welcome and engaged us throughout the tour with fascinating insights about the island, its diverse trees, and rich history. We visited several breathtaking locations, including a delightful lunch stop at Santana, where we enjoyed some of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. The tour also included an exciting off-road journey along the old paths the locals used before they were paved. A highlight was our visit to a rum factory, which was both informative and enjoyable. Thanks to John's careful planning, we consistently returned to the jeep early from our stops, allowing us some extra time. He kindly took us to an additional viewpoint, ensuring we made the most of our day instead of heading back prematurely. We were dropped off at 5 PM, rounding out a long but incredibly enjoyable day. A big thank you to John for his knowledge and expertise! One tip I would share is to wear sturdy footwear that can handle mud, as there is a short walk involved. Also, pack warm clothing, as we visited one of the highest points in Madeira, where it can be quite cold and windy. Thank you, Scott, Janine & Thomas.

5.00Took this Safari excursion with John. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. John was very informative and he was very knowledgeable on so many different things about Madeira and pointed out various interesting things along the way. Would recommend the trip to anyone.

5.00Rodrigo took us to places I wouldn't find myself. Off road was wild too. The rum glasses could have been bigger but it's fine as they were on the house. Delightful experience!

5.00Picked up on time. We booked the East tour having already done the West. We were seated in the rear bench seats, slightly cramped but the other passengers were great fun so no issues with catching feet etc. Ernesto was amazing and such a great driver, I would definitely request his vehicle next time. We did some great off roading and were able to stand which made for a fantastic experience, Ernesto can really drive! It was cold where we sat so dress appropriately, this was mainly when we were travelling from point to point. Everybody in the vehicle got along well, would highly recommend, thanks Ernesto!

5.00We had a fantastic day out with Nico touring the East side of Madeira. It was the perfect blend of fun, adventure and sight seeing. Packed full of the highlights of this side of the island, each visit was well timed so we didn’t feel rushed or that we had to linger to wait for a pick up. The short Levada walk was a bonus and worth it for the view. Pack layers as it gets chilly driving from place to place, as the jeep is open top. Plus, even on a sunny day like we had, the peaks are still cold. The jeep does get crowded so pack light as there isn’t anywhere to store bags other than by your feet. Overall, a really fun day! Bravo Nico!

5.00Another excellent tour with Silvio , we went on the west tour at beginning of the week . I highly recommend this as best way to see all the island has to offer . Great value for money , he gives you time to take it all in and is very knowledgeable.

5.00Does what it says on the tin. Great value for money, well organised, understanding and helpful. Not pushy at all with sales for lunch or at Rum factory. A really good day out…..but the weather and hence the views were good.
