We did a two-day tour of Cape Town during a cruise stop. South Africa is now firmly on our come-back-to list. The ship was delayed due to weather, with docking uncertain for a while. Even when we arrived, we couldn’t dock for hours. Clive was calm, reassuring, and flexible throughout. Marianne cancelled other plans to take us when we finally got ashore. She’s the nicest guide we’ve had—flexible, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. We planned the two days around the weather: first a full tour of Cape Town, then all the sights down to Cape Point and back. With Marianne’s knowledge and connections, we saw and did things we couldn’t have managed on our own. Cape Town is an intriguing place, and thanks to Marianne, we got to know it far better than we would have otherwise. Thank you, Marianne and Clive.

Superb day, superb sites and outstanding organisation. This was our first visit to Cape Town and I booked Clive months ahead for a full day tour down to the Cape for Sue and me. Then the night before a lady named Maianne Van Rensburg texted me that she would be our guide, Clive had had to go into hospital. So you know when something out of your control goes wrong that is the ultimate test of an organisation and Clive’s came through the test with flying colours. Everything was seamless, the quality outstanding and Marianne excellent. Marianne sat down with us established our interests, building on previous communications with Clive and on the basis of the weather we reversed the order of the day to perfection. Two hours in Kirstenbosch Gardens in the fresh of the morning was perfect. The setting behind Table Mountain and the knowledge of the garden’s own guide were world class. Then off to the penguins near Simonstown and a lunch stop all punctuated with the fascinating stories of the Cape. Marianne was a delight and it felt like reuniting with long lost family. The Cape of Good Hope was bracing in the wind but the greatest glory was left to last, Chapman’s Peak Drive in the late afternoon sun on the return. This road is a marvel and the views beyond words. What made it even more memorable, if that was possible was the work of wind whipping up dust devils in on the beaches below and the thousands of ‘white horses’ swirling of the wave crests across the whole of the southern sea as far as one could see. It was nature at her beguiling best. In the end Maianne confessed that perhaps reversing her normal direction and time of the Peak Drive was a great innovation. Great things happen when great people get creative.
