YehLiu Geopark
Yehliu is a cape on Taiwan’s northern coast best known for Yehliu Geopark, where sea erosion has shaped honeycomb and mushroom rocks such as the iconic Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The area is mostly flat but offers little shade, so sun protection is advised during summer.
Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street)
Feel transported to this former gold-mining mountain town—once built by the Japanese and now a maze of history-rich lanes and alleys. Most of the charming streets are stairways lined with snack stalls and teahouses, and they can get quite crowded. (Tip: If you’d like to experience Jiufen at sunset or dusk, book a departure after 11:00 AM. This will make Jiufen the final stop, giving you time to enjoy the sunset views and evening lights.)

We had a great day out of Taipei City. Ken ( TC Lin), our guide and driver, was punctual and a very careful driver. As this was a private tour, we were able to modify the itinerary on the day to suit our schedule. The vehicle was very tidy, spacious and comfortable. We had a great time, despite the weather not being the best. Would be happy to recommend this tour to anyone looking for a day tour from central Taipei.

Nicolas was a superb driver and guide. Despite the rainy weather, he made the outing both memorable and enjoyable. His knowledge of the area is impressive and his personality was great.

We had an amazing day with Jackson (our guide) he was so much fun & knowledgeable. All the sights we visited were amazing, the Geopark was incredible, and flying the lanterns over the railway a real experience. Even the rain did not spoil our day … 10/10 trip

Great variety of sights and experiences north of Taipei. James is a wonderful guide for history, culture, natural beauty and the markets of Juifen and the lanterns of Shifen

Going early to the Geopark was excellent planning by Jack, our guide. We were able to explore the park before it became crowded. In your scheduling consider going as early as possible. The Jiufen Old Street was interesting and a little different from the market streets in the city. Our guide led us to a restaurant for lunch that offered a great view of the sea in addition to good food. It was an easy, lovely walk to the Shifen Waterfall. Watching hot air lanterns being inscribed with personal wishes, and then launched was fun. The excitement surrounding this activity was nice to see. This tour offers a pleasant contrast to the city tours that are somewhat hectic where dealing with many people, traffic and a larger number of sights to see can be tiring. Jack was very personable and it was a pleasure to spend the day with him. He taught us some history of the country, offered comments about what we were seeing as we explored the northern area, and showed an interest in us personally. Jack also made suggestions about things he thought we would enjoy trying or seeing on our own following the tour. We highly recommend this tour and Jack as a guide.

Thanks to our guide Josefina (Nana) our full day turned out to be a wonderful experience: she explained the Geopark rock formations , a track by the sea to view Northern Taiwan’s natural work of art. We also walked through the old mining town which felt electric with wonderful Taiwan food and interesting products like black oolong tea. We enjoyed authentic Taiwan cuisine in a charming house/restaurant atop Juifen . Our day ended with lantern lighting, being thankful while we floated up our wishes to the heavens.
