YehLiu Geopark
Yehliu is a cape on Taiwan’s northern coast best known for Yehliu Geopark, where sea erosion has shaped honeycomb and mushroom rocks such as the iconic Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The area is mostly flat but offers little shade, so sun protection is advised during summer.
Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street)
Feel transported to this former gold-mining mountain town—once built by the Japanese and now a maze of history-rich lanes and alleys. Most of the charming streets are stairways lined with snack stalls and teahouses, and they can get quite crowded. (Tip: If you’d like to experience Jiufen at sunset or dusk, book a departure after 11:00 AM. This will make Jiufen the final stop, giving you time to enjoy the sunset views and evening lights.)

Vincent Lee was a great guide for our eight hour tour! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and a great photographer. A lot of these places can get very crowded, and he knew when to get us there to beat the crowds. We’re very glad we did this tour, and it was a great way to get out of Taipei and see places we would not have otherwise seen.

Our tour guide was Paul. Paul was a great tour guide. The day flew by so quickly. He gave us the history of each location and told us which attractions were worth seeing. His expertise and connections with the local vendors also made each location feel like we were VIPs between the parking, getting assistance, and having Paul as our professional photographer. I would totally recommend Paul as a tour guide. The tour itself was relatively fast pace, and the longest part was driving between each location. If you prefer to stroll at a very leisure pace, this tour probably isnt for you. This was a great teaser tour to know what to explore the next time I come back to Taiwan. This was also a very private tour with just me, my partner and Paul. So we asked Paul everything and anything we could think of between night markets, bubble tea, and what other locations to explore on our own. The most notable locations was Jiiufen and Yehliu. Jiufen because of the tiny little shops, incredible architecture of dangerous stairways and hidden alleys (Paul navigated the streets like a pro). I could have easily spent the day in this small town because there was so much to see and explore. Paul also had us dine in at a restaurant for lunch that felt like we traveled back almost 200 years. The location had a very traditional decor and feel, the tea set was an amazing experience and the food was delicious. The best part was the view of ocean. Yehliu will satisfy the inner child at heart, as you can go out on the rocks and see the rock formations up close. It’s an amazing experience.

This was a nice way to get out of the city and head into the countryside, which is beautiful including a stop at the ocean, which is also quite stunning. My guide Junior was spot on ,right on time and was just good companionship and easy to get along with.spoke pretty good English. The highlight at the end of the tour was a traditional lunch at a beautiful spot high up in the hills. Junior is an excellent guide and a very safe driver.

Jack was an amazing tour guide and very patient while we're shopping and browsing/shopping. Very attentive and booked us a lunch reservation at one of the locations. Very smooth and efficient tour. Weather was rainy/windy so was very accommodating with a switch of plans. Highly recommend!

Chiao-Chiao met us promptly at the cruise port, and we were expertly driven around in a comfortable air-conditioned SUV. The Yehliu Geopark is nothing short of spectacular! Chiao-Chiao waked with us explaining about the rock formations, fossils, coral, and taking our pictures along the way. After crossing a suspension bridge and climbing down steps we reached the Shifen Waterfall! On the way back to the car we enjoyed some well earned & refreshing red dragon fruit! Then off to paint wishes on a lantern and have it launched to the sky! We had our pictures taken creating wonderful memories. Chiao-Chiao had us try an incredible ice cream treat…crepe, crushed pnut brittle, ice cream & cilantro wrapped like a burrito! Refreshing & delicious! We had time to browse the stalls of the local vendors. Next stop a drive up the mountain to Jiufen town. Her expert driving on these winding roads was appreciated. After climbing steps and walking along winding alleys we explored the town and sampled local food for lunch. We enjoyed all of her food recommendations & the beautiful view on the balcony overlooking the square decorated in red lanterns. After strolling the town we enjoyed a tea set, learning how to prepare oolong tea. Heading back down the mountain, we viewed the Golden Waterfall. It was a full day filled with fun, beautiful scenery, great food & delightful conversation with Chiao-Chiao. If you get the chance do take this amazing tour!
