Last stop: Pompeii. Pompeii is the most stunning archaeological site on the Italian Peninsula and one of the most visited. The ruins of Pompeii are an open air museum where visitors can go back in time and discover a city that had been buried in ashes until 1748. Visitors experience the city much as it existed more than 2000 years ago.
Second stop on the tour will be Sorrento (with 1 hour free time to explore on your own). Removed to the south of the upbeat urban tempos of Naples extends the Peninsula of Sorrento. This is a land where the scent of citrus fills the air and where grape vines follow the steep terrain to the edge of the sea. Breathtaking views of Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri await you behind every bend in the road that leads you along this spectacular coast.

Our tour of the Amalfi Coast was absolutely excellent from start to finish. Armando was the perfect driver and guide! He was professional, personable, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. His knowledge of the area was impressive; he shared rich historical context and fascinating local insights throughout the drive, which made every stop more meaningful. One of the highlights was our time in Pompeii. The ruins tour was incredibly well done, and the lunch there was outstanding authentic, relaxing, and a wonderful break in the day. We also loved stopping in Sorrento which was charming and beautiful, with just the right amount of time to explore and enjoy the atmosphere. The entire experience felt seamless and thoughtfully curated. Armando’s combination of deep regional knowledge, professionalism, and warm personality truly elevated the tour. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to see the Amalfi Coast in a memorable and enriching way.

We have done many Viator tours all around the world and this is top for sure. Why? Of course the coast was beautiful and the Roman ruins were cool, but what made this the best was our guide Alfonso. He was energetic, funny and kind. He loves his homeland and he loves people. What a wonderful combination!

Forgot to write a review so can't remember the lady Guide's name but she was excellent! Italian but excellent English and knew her stuff. The places we visited were certainly worth it and a great experience. The visit to Pompeii was a must. We were handed over to a specialist Pompeii guide who knew so much but made you understand how the Pompeians lived rather than give you dates, etc. We were promised to be back aboard our ship with time to spare and we were.

We were extremely pleased with both our driver and tour guide Francesco (“Frank”) and our tour guide in Pompeii, Roberta. Roberta was outstanding but Frank was AWESOME! Frank arrived professionally dressed in a jacket and tie and greeted us with a friendly smile and very clear English. As he skillfully drove the 6 of us in the Mercedes van from Naples (Napoli) along the coastline thru Sorrento, along the Amalfi Coast and over the mountains to Positano, he provided a running commentary about the area, the sights, the history, etc. He was extremely nice and personable and entertained us by singing along with classic American songs including those of Frank Sinatra,Elvis,Johnny Cash and many others as well as Italian favorites. He has a beautiful, strong, tenor voice that harmonized perfectly with the original artists. We encouraged him to sing more. Traffic on the very narrow, twisting, turning steep mountainous roads with drop-offs of hundreds of feet right beside the road, can be quite frightening for those of us who are not accustomed to it. Drivers must navigate hair-pin 90 and 180 degree turns on highways barely wide enough for single vehicles while avoiding speeding oncoming traffic and motorcycles zipping between both lanes of traffic. Couple that with parked vehicles and motorcycles typically lining both sides of the highway, leaving little room for traveling vehicles, and it seems like pure mayhem and accidents waiting to happen. Somehow, Frank navigated all of this calmly and professionally and kept us as at ease as one could be in those conditions. There were times when it seemed we had perhaps only an inch to spare between vehicles, yet we never touched. On the way back, Frank stopped at one of his favorite restaurants in Sorrento where we enjoyed huge anti-pasta trays with prosciutto, cheeses, arugula, tomatoes, bread, etc. from which we made our own bruschetta, then brought out the largest pizza we had ever seen, composed of at least 6 different types of pizza. The meal was amazing! We left stuffed and very satisfied. We also stopped at the Capri Limoncello brewery where Frank gave us a tour of the Limoncello brewing operation. We received samples of Limoncello and delicious candies made at the brewery and made a few purchases to enjoy later at home. Frank turned us over to Roberta, the wonderful, entertaining guide at Pompeii. She escorted us around the ruins for an hour as she told us all about the background and history of Pompeii before and after the eruption and provided lots of very interesting information about the city, its inhabitants, its culture and its apparent focus on brothels, prostitution and erotic art. We would never have guessed that women of Pompeii howled to attract paying customers and were called “Lupas”. Roberta was an excellent guide, friendly, very easy to understand and very knowledgeable. We found out about Mondo Guide from Rick Steve’s book. We purchased the day trip from Naples that took us to Positano, Naples, and Pompeii. This day trip could not have been any better. Our driver was Nicola, who was so kind and treated us like family. Our tour guide for Pompeii was Roberta, who was hilarious and so passionate about the history she shared with us. I HIGHLY recommend mondo guide to anyone interested in excursions here.

We had a fantastic experience using the Mondo Guide service for a 3 hour tour of Pompeii for our 4 adult family members. Our booking agent Federica was really great to work with . The booking, payment and details of when and where to meet were very clearly communicated via email . Federica was so kind and polite . Our tour guide Roberta was excellent. She made us feel really welcomed and we appreciated her anthropology expertise on Pompeii. She was so nice and funny too. Our visit to Pompeii, followed up on our own with a visit to the MANN museum and a hike up to the crater line of Mt. Vesuvius were definitely highlights of our three weeks in Italy . I would highly recommend this company if you are looking to book a private tour of Pompeii.
